Journalism is one of the few occupations in this nation that does not hold their employees accountable for poor work or intentional (criminal) wrong doings. A typical example of this was when a major news station once rigged automobiles to explode for a story they were doing. The story was supposed to be about how certain vehicles accidently exploded during collisions, but the alleged (journalsits) instead rigged them to explode on camera to increase their ratings, since ratings=money. The FCC should have pulled the license of this station for their criminal wrongdoing, yet nothing was ever done. And the media monster was allowed to grow stronger.
The problem with journalism today is that people fail to realize that they are really part of the commercial television game. The nightly news is no different than tabloid television. If the media wanted to guarantee any accuracy in their reporting then they should not have commercials, and stop recording ratings for viewership. The media would then be guided by ethics and not money. Of course todays journalists would have to be taught ethics, since they don't have any now. They would also have to learn what journalism really is. Since all they know now is sensationalism. The medias' logo of "IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS", pretty well sums up what they are presently all about.
