Guns Kill People
Above you will see a picture of a true assault rifle. It is a
M4 Carbine equipped with a grenade launcher, and is truly the best weapon
for killing people or anything else for that matter. It is capable of fully
automatic fire, and is what people think of when they hear the word assault
weapon. An assault rifle or more commonly known as a machine gun, is not
generally legal for civilian ownership. They have been illegal for sale
to the general public since 1934, and have since required rigorous screening
and permits to obtain. (The assault weapons ban passed by President
Clinton, banned firearms that merely look like assault weapons, not perform
like them.) So why do I have this weapon of death featured on this
page? Just for that very reason, because it is so capable of killing people.
Yes, you can use it for hunting, you can also target shoot with it, but
that is not why we have The Right to Keep
and Bear Arms. The exact reason we have the right to keep and bear
arms is for killing people that threaten our safety, and that of our nation's.
Our Constitutional Right to firearm ownership is not meant as a safeguard
to hunters or target shooters, but rather to guarantee every American citizen
the right to defend their families, homes, homeland and maybe one day their
nations democratic form of government. The Founding
Fathers of this great Democracy realized that it was their firearms
that gained their independence from Britain. They knew that only by guaranteeing
the publics right to own firearms could they hope to preserve their new
nation, and guarantee its long lived status as a free nation. If the Founding
Fathers were around today, they would require that every citizen have the
right to own a true assault rifle, and that is why I feature the above
weapon. That is why they put it in writing in the Bill of Rights to our
nations Constitution. It was never the Founding Fathers intention that
our government should be better armed than its people. The very idea of
a government that is not accountable to its citizens is in direct conflict
with very nature of this Republic. The citizens of this nation are not
a threat to the government - the citizens are supposed to be the government.
That is why we call our system of government a DEMOCRACY!!
Many people over complicate and fail to understand the 2nd Amendment
to the Bill of Rights. It is a very simple compound sentence.
"A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear
arms shall not be infringed."
A well-regulated militia refers to any civilian (not paid or in the employ of the State or Federal government) who owns a firearm and is organized in a regulated manner. It could be an organization compromised of gun clubs available at a moments call. A well regulated militia is not any branch of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines or National Guard, these groups all fall under the auspice of some form of government.
The next part of this run on sentence, "the right of the people to
keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" is very straight forward.
There was much opposition at the time of signing the Constitution and certain
safeguards (The Bill of Rights) were attached. After a prolonged
battle against a government that the colonies knew and trusted, they didn't
want to go through that again. They wanted the nations power to reside
with the citizens and not the future government. In addition to guaranteeing
that the civilian population could maintain a militia to protect against
future tyranny, they needed to guarantee that these citizen soldiers would
always be armed. Hence, the second part of the 2nd Amendment.
It goes without saying that a militia is armed, the second half of the
2nd Amendment is to guarantee the citizen is armed. Does this mean
that everyone should own an assault weapon, NO! But it should not
be up to the government to decide who does and who doesn't. That
power and decision of who should own a firearm must remain with the people,
if the people are to remain in control of their own Liberty..

Guns Kill Children?
Many people still insist that children are being shot in their homes by firearms left around by careless parents. An excellent example of this is the Ceasefire Organization. They run commercials of a curious child who finds a firearm in his home. What they should run is the story of Rayshawn Brewington. Here is excerpt from an Associated Press article published on August 13, 1997.
Rayshawn Brewington, 19, was allegedly holding a 9mm. Ruger handgun shortly after 1 a.m., when it went off (guns don't just go off.. you must pull the trigger), striking his 9-year-old brother in the shoulder, said Lt. Dennis Cirillo, a Police Department spokesman. The slug passed through the boy's shoulder and hit his 5-year-old brother in the head. After the gun went off, Brewington and his mother's boyfriend, who was not identified, hailed a cab and took them to Harlem Hospital. Brewington was charged with two counts of assault, as well as criminal possession of a defaced weapon. The weapon was defaced by having its serial number scratched off, police said.
Typical of most journalism, the brand of gun was included in the article, but not Rayshawn Brewington's criminal record which is just slightly more important than the brand of firearm. If they did their job they would have found that Rayshawn Brewington had a previous criminal record for weapons possession. Obviously that failed to deter him...his mother didn't do much either. So the next time someone tries to feed you lies about children and guns, merely ask them for the date and source of their statistics, as well as the age group that it covers. You will be amazed how fast the conversation changes. These individuals who use children to further their cause of gun control are no better than pimps. If they really cared about the children then they would use their energy to curtail the illegal use of drugs, the real source of gun violence.
