What You Should Know About Fur
The fur coat your wearing today is made up by almost 40 slaughtered
animals. Many of these animals were caught using steel clamping
leg hold traps in the wild. The animals that are near extinction
and are difficult to trap in the wild are raised on farms.
The fur industry uses the word farm, but it is really
an animal concentration camp. The animals are raised
in the most confining of spaces to maximize space and guarantee
profits. Their comfort and health are of no concern because they
are going to be pointlessly slaughtered anyway. Once they are
killed their skinned bodies are thrown in the garbage. A whole
animal dies only so someone can wear its fur.
Some Common Questions and Answers Concerning Fur
;
A: Some of the animals bleed to death in steel leg hold traps.
But most are drowned, have their necks broken or anally electrocuted.
Q: Why are such cruel measures used to kill these animals?
A: The killer (furrier) wants to leave no marks on the fur.
By killing them as described above he will guarantee himself the
most fur for his acts.
Q: Why is it wrong to slaughter these animals, they are just animals?
A: Yes they are just animals. Yet just like your dog
or your cat they feel pain too and nothing gives us the
right to needlessly abuse or kill animals.
Q: How else am I going to keep warm if I don't wear fur?
A: This is 1996 baby! We have so many glamorous (not to mention really
warm) synthetics to wear, why walk around with a dead animal on your back?
Have a warm heart: Go cruelty-free this winter.
Q: Does fur make a fashion statement?
A: It absolutely does. It says "look at me, I'm shallow. I need a
defenseless, tortured DEAD animal on my back to make me feel
glamorous."
Q: But I have been told that I look glamorous in fur.
A: I'm sure the fur salesman would have told you anything you wanted to hear. He has to do anything he can to push fur coats, they are just not selling like they used to. Why do think you got your fur coat so cheap? No one else wants them.
Surveys have shown that men think women look fat in fur.
That is definitely the look today's women want: The fat grizzly
bear look.
Q: I didn't know about this and I already bought a fur coat what can I do now?
A: DON'T WEAR IT!! Write it off as a bad mistake. Also, you can inform
your friends of what you've learned and prevent them from making the
same mistake. Also, many animal rights groups
such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and FOA
(Friends of Animals)welcome donations of fur items which they use
in demonstrations against the use of fur.
