Pre-owned Books

[Family & Faith]

We deal principally with our own books, and are not a bookstore. Nevertheless, we sometimes acquire used books and journals related to the subjects covered on the SYMBIOS website, and we will offer them for sale on this page. The listings will change frequently, so, if you are in the market, bookmark the site and come back every month or so.

To purchase books off this page: (1) Contact us to assure that the book is available; (2) Tell us that you definitely want it, and we will put it on hold for you for two weeks; and (3) Pay electronically through PayPal or send a check made out to Sanford R. Wilbur [at SYMBIOS, 4367 S. E. 16th Street, Gresham, OR 97080] for the purchase price [in U. S. dollars]; mailing costs are calculated based on the size and weight of the individual book. Purchasers from Canada or other non-U. S. sites should contact us for postal rates to their area. [For anyone ordering more than one book that will be sent in the same package, we will reduce the total mailing costs accordingly.]

NOTE: These books are all pre-owned or "shop-worn," and while every copy is "good," they show some degree of wear.

Ambarian, S. L. 1997. A Bride's Touch: A Handbook of Wedding Personality and Inspiration. Gresham, OR: SYMBIOS. Paper. 359 pages. ISBN 0-9651263-1-5. $10.00 plus $4.50 mailing.
To quote our own publicity, this is "the ultimate wedding handbook." Seriously, it does continue to sell year after year because it is a well-written, well-organized comprehensive guide, rather than a fad wedding planner. We usually have a few copies available that are brand new, but are a little less than perfect. Get full particulars on "A Bride's Touch" on our new book pages.

BOFF, L. 1997. Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor. Maryknoll, NY: Orbis Books. Paper. 242 pages. ISBN 1-57075-136-6. $6.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
A noted theologian takes on the issues of poverty and social justice, putting them into a framework of religious belief. Our copy is a little worn at the edges, and the cover is slightly warped, but good solid binding.

Campolo, T. 1992. How to Rescue the Earth without Worshipping Nature: A Christian's Call to Save Creation. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers. Hardbound, with dust jacket. 213 pages. ISBN 0-8407-7772-8. $6.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
In very readable fashion, the well-known Christian author and speaker seeks to persuade us that our faith should make us more concerned about our earthly environment, not less. The copy is very nice overall, but there are a few underlinings [pencil only] in the text.

Henry, P. 1999. The Ironic Christian's Companion: Finding the Marks of God's Grace in the World. New York: Riverhead Books. Hardbound, with dust jacket. 273 pages. ISBN 1-57322-107-4. $10.00 plus $4.00 mailing.
This is a fun book if you're not afraid to be a little challenged about what you believe. I especially liked his essay on "little brown jobs" [those birds that even the avid bird-watcher cannot identify]. The author suggests that some of those "religious" beliefs we hold so avidly may not be all that positively identifiable, either. Our copy is in new condition.

Nash, J. A. 1991. Loving Nature: Ecological Integrity and Christian Responsibility. Nashville, TN: Abingdon Press. Paper. 256 pages. ISBN 0-687-22824-7. $6.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
A thoughtful - and understandable - discussion of the interrelationships of religion and ecology. Our copy is in new condition.

Richards, L. O. 1970. A New Face for the Church. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan. Hardbound, with dust jacket. 288 pages. $5.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
Still one of the classics about why we go to church, and if we are making the most of it. Lots of good ideas and food for thought. On our copy, the dust jacket is worn in places, but the book itself is still very good.

Wilbur, S. R. 1996. If God is God: A Novel. Gresham, OR: Symbios. Paper. 383 pages. ISBN 0-9651263-0-7. $5.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
This is another one of our SYMBIOS books that is still in print. We usually have a few copies that are brand new, but are just a little box-worn. Full details are on our new books pages.

Yancey, P. 1995. The Jesus I Never Knew. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan. Hardbound, with dust jacket. 288 pages. ISBN 0-310-38570-9. $8.00 plus $3.50 mailing.
A very easy to read, very thoughtful look at who Jesus was, and what he did. Voted "1996 Gold Medallion Christian Book of the Year." Our copy is in new condition.
