Timothy Leary

b. October 22 1920, 10:45 a.m., Springfield MA
d. May 31 1996, 12:44 a.m., Los Angeles CA

This tribute to Tim Leary by Douglas Rushkoff (rushkoff@interport.com) captures the airy/11th house theme of Leary’s natal chart, i.e., a talent for friendship and an interest in all types of people.
A selection of Rushkoff's tribute:(Leary's chart at right)
. . . What he did for us, more than anything, was define what "us" is. A disparate group of compatriots, lovers, friends, adventurers and even foes, who were attracted to space where everything we did was "A-okay, thumbs-up, the best ever, and right on!" A place where the entrance was free and the crowd pre-approved by the virtue of their presence. Tim's house was probably the easiest place to feel it. An extended college bull session -- it lasted thirty years and spanned three generations -- and had less to do with Tim's philosophies than his blanket acceptance of anyone who walked in the door. Nothing made Tim happier than to hear his friends praised. It's just too bad that he was the one who had to do it most of the time. But slowly, over time, we came to see that people tend to rise to the highest expectations we place on them. The reason the folks at Tim's were consistently intelligent, gracious, and kind-hearted was because Tim treated us all as if we were. We had no choice but to rise to the occasion. That's probably why Tim wanted his web site to be a house. So that he could extend the welcome to everyone. And for us it became the best way to do as he recommended twenty years ago: "go find the others." While Tim was alive this was easy to do. We all had Tim in common. Like a lightning rod for hyper-interaction, he became a medium of exchange. So many times I came to this house less to see Tim himself than to be with the people here -- my best friends -- and to get to be with them in that special way we got to be together in the ambience of unconditional mutual approval. . . . .

The tribute is an apt description of Libra Sun in the 11th--"gracious and kind-hearted" ... "unconditional mutual approval" ... "the warm welcome and acceptance of anyone who walked in the door".

With Mercury and the Sun’s dispositor Venus in Scorpio, Leary's more intense side is only alluded to in Rushkoff’s tribute. He describes Leary as "being willing to look deep into the dark for a glimmer of light". And I’d add, looking at Leary’s chart, he often played both provocateur and scientist...eliciting emotional intensity from others (12th house Scorpio Venus) and then dispassionately analyzing their responses (3rd house Moon in Aquarius and Virgo Saturn/Jupiter in the 9th).

Bomb Threat

On July 27 1996 at 1:20 a.m. a pipe bomb exploded during Olympics festivities at Centennial Park, Chicago Illinois, killing one person and injuring more than 100. An anonymous phone call, warning of the bomb, was received more than twenty minutes before the explosion..
Records show the 13-second call conveying the threat was completed at 12:58:45 a.m. The 911 operator sent the computer message to the dispatcher at 1:08:35, and the dispatcher contacted a police unit at 1:11:10.

There was a twelve minute delay between phone call and police contact because the 911 operator was unable to find the Centennial Part address in the computer system. Throughout this time the midheaven was approaching Neptune (confusion, mystery). When the police were finally contacted Netune was just minutes past an exact conjunction to the midheaven.

Also, it's perfect timing for an anonymous call with Neptune, the master of disguises and deception, at the apex of the chart.

John Kennedy Jr. marries

b. November 25 1960, 12:22 a.m., Washington D.C.

On September 21, 1996 at around 4 p.m. John Kennedy Jr. married Carolyn Bessette, a public relations executive for Calvin Klein, in a private ceremony on Cumberland Island, off the coast of Georgia.
Jupiter, in retrograde motion, has been aspecting all three significators of the 7th house:
- conjunct Venus (natural ruler of the 7th), sextiling both his Pisces 7th cusp and Neptune, its ruler.

Beginning Spring 1997 through early 1998 transiting Saturn will square Kennedy's Venus & Saturn / Mars opposition plus semi-square his Moon. Some manifestations may be:

- responsibilities, restrictions, disappointments in the marriage (although with natal Venus & Saturn in Capricorn, he takes his commitments seriously and will try to work out any problems)

- change of home and career for him and/or his wife, financial loss
