July 19, 2009 FUNDRAISING UPDATE -
Grace has achieved enough to be close enough to the minimum fundraising needed to decide that building procurement is
a GO! While there is more fundraising to do, plus a congregational vote, we feel confident that God will provide at
least the minimum to acquire the property. Grace has called a congregational meeting for August 2, immediately after
worship service. At that meeting the leadership will lay out the plans for procurement, subject to approval by vote of the
congregation. If approved, we proceed with a firm offer to purchase the Trinity Lutheran property! In the meantime
we have extended our option agreement with Trinity, extending our time to August 15.
We now have approximately $244 thousand raised in cash and pledges, providential progress well towards our goal of $425,000!
See the graphic below for some details:
You can see from the pie chart that the tiny Grace congregation of about two dozen families is heavily invested in the
project with over 60% of the total. This information should speak well of our vision and commitment to it as we reach
outside the congregation and the state to try and raise the balance! The chart below illustrates that we can still use
several contributions in every single range, from small to large. And we would thankfully accept even a VERY large donation
- either all at once or over 3 years time!
Pray with us as we proceed down the home stretch of this fundraising campaign.
History...
On Sunday, April 19, 2009, Trinity Lutheran Church voted to accept our offer for an option to
purchase their property. The purchase price is $425,000. We have until July 15 to enter into
a firm purchase agreement for that price. We are now conducting fund-raising campaign to raise the entire amount, $425,000.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY for both Grace Presbyterian and Trinity Lutheran as we go forward!
As a point of information, our denomination, the
Presbyterian Church of Amercia (PCA), does NOT own local church buildings. When the purchase is complete, the building will be owned by the congregation
of Grace Presbyterian Church of Layton, Utah.
More History...
On Tuesday, March 31, Grace Presbyterian presented a purchase arrangement offer to Trinity Lutheran's Property Committee.
The committee had very few questions, and there appeared to be no concerns with the details. We will provide Trinity
with a formal, written offer on Monday, April 6. The Property Committee, after legal review, will make a recommendation
to the Council. The Council (their formal leadership body) will make a recommendation to the congregation, who must approve
by vote before the offer could be accepted. Due to Easter and a wedding, the soonest date for a meeting and vote of the congregation
is Sunday, April 19.
Trinity agreed to set a meeting for vote on April 19, after which they will phone us with their decision. We need to
pray for God's wisdom for Trinity as they march toward that date, and for God's will to be done on that date.
We encourage all of you to watch quietly, and pray loudly.
BACKGROUND
Grace Presbyterian voted on March 22, 2009, to pursue making an offer for the purchase of property and buildings from
Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Layton, Utah. See the links below (or in the column on the left) for the letter to
the congregation and informational Q&A provided for our congregational meeting. Please pray for us and for Trinity
as we attempt to come to an agreement, and for both churches as we proceed to see what God has in store for us.
