Welcome to COMSCI 96 Advanced Web Page Design with Javascript
In this course you will use a number of on and offline resources. You should start out by printing off a copy of the class syllabus. This will briefly describe the class and indicate the textbook that you will use. You may buy the book at the DVC bookstore, online or at a local bookstore. Be sure and use the ISBN to identify the book.
Links
In addition to the book I have included links to a number of web sites with more information on each topic. You can find the topics and the corresponding links by clicking on the "URLs" icon of the class home page.
Homework
For the Homework assignments, follow the directions in the book explicitly. All homework must be turned by WebCt e-mail. Be sure and include ALL the files needed for each web site to work, i.e. sub pages, graphics. I suggest that you create a separate directory for each chapters assignments on your hard drive.
Quizzes and Tests
There will be one test at the end of the class covering the material in the Chapters 1 through 8. We will not cover Chapters 9 through 13 in this class. I have put sample test questions and the answers on the Quiz Answers page so you can take the quizzes in order to practice for the test. The test questions are either true/false, fill in the blank or multiple choice. The test will be on-line and will be held during the last week of class.
If you have any questions about the class or Javascript you can communicate with me by WebCt e-mail. I may post some of the questions ( and answers ) on the FAQ's page, but I will preserve your anonymity.
Other
You should notice some other icons on the class home page. The Calendar page indicates drop and census dates. Check it out. Sample File Downloads contain sample pages for each chapter of the book. Download these and unzip them into a class subdirectory on your computer. Use Notepad to read the comments in the HTML files and view them with a browser.
This class works best for people who are able to work on there own and are willing to take the initiative in using the resources that this class provides, in order to fulfill the class requirements. Feel free to e-mail me with specific questions, but remember that your primary source of information is your textbook, class lectures and the other information on this web site.
