Mulate's Restaurant

How to get there:

From I-10, take exit # 103A onto Evangeline Throughway (Route Evangeline), a divided highway, heading South.   Continue South on Evangeline several miles through town to the 7th traffic light (I think) where Pinhook Road crosses.   This is a fairly big interesction with gas stations on three corners. (BP, Exxon, and Conoco)   Turn left and travel a couple of miles to the 3rd traffic light (I think) where Carmel Drive and Breaux Bridge Road intersect with Pinhook (Route Pinhook Est).  On the near right hand corner is a curved metal 'Quonset Hut' building housing an oil change place.   There will be a sign reading "Mulates 6 Mi. Ahead" pointing to the right.  Turn right onto Breaux Bridge Road (LA 94) and proceed 6-7 miles to the outskirts of Breaux Bridge.  On the right, just before the second set of railroad tracks you'll see Mulate's.  There will be a lighted sign out front as well as on the front of the building listing that night's band.  If you miss Mulate's, LA 94 will deadend into LA 31 in Breaux Bridge.

LA 94 is an interesting trip in itself.  You'll pass through or by wide-ranging cross-section of Acadian rural life, including: a Catholic convent; a wild bird refuge; an oil field; a junk yard; a moto-cross track; some honky tonks; truck stops; an industrial park; an adult video store; and a boudin and Andouille shop.

What to expect:

Touristy Cajun restaurant frequented by tour buses.

Rambling building w/ low ceilings.

Dance floor is in the middle as you walk in.

Dinner tables to the left and more tables and the bar to the right.

Note the business cards tacked to virtually every square inch of the ceiling.

Open 7 days for lunch and dinner with live music each night.

Excellent but rather small dance space with adjacent low-rise band stand.

Often can be quite packed as it's a favorite of the tour bus set.

Nice selection of good Cajun and seafood dishes.

No cover charge if you just come to dance.

House Bands: Lee Benoit - Fridays; Jay Cormier - Saturdays

Music generally gets underway around 7PM and lasts until 11PM.
