"Boys and girls from all over the USA partying it down in Cajun Country over New Year's. What a concept."

Here is the preliminary scoop about BTEA 2006/2007

Once again, Bob & Tim's Excellent Adventure (BTEA for short) is going to be based at the La Quinta Inn in Lafayette, LA.  Those of you who went with us last year will remember it as a quite nice place to stay and very reasonably priced.

Like last year, we are teaming up with several other groups of Cajun/Zydeco dancers: HogTown Zydeco from Gainesville, FL, the Cajun/Zydeco Dancers from Portland, OR, some folks from the NorthEast, and some folks from the Lone Star state.   Dick Brainard, the Portland group's Alpha male, has negotiated a good deal with the La Quinta management: $55/night (plus tax) per night for 2 double beds, and has tied up a block of 25 rooms.   Those original 25 rooms are sold out, but the management has added more rooms to the block.   There is a decent continental breakfast included in the price.  Many of the rooms have small refridgerators and microwave ovens in them.  Also, a Shoney's is next door and has an all-you-can-eat breakfast special.

Here are the specifics:

La Quinta Inn
2100 N.E. Evangeline Thruway

Ph: (337) 233-5610
Fax: (337) 235-2104

Be sure to ask for, and confirm, the 'Zydeco New Year's Group' rate ($55 + tax)
If you have any trouble, try asking for Deidre (the Inn Manager and Dick's contact person or else Liz)

Scheduling Note:  This year, New Year's Eve (NYE) falls on a Sunday.  In many ways, this is really the best way it could fall, as Sunday typically is one of the slower nights in Acadiana, for dancing anyway.  So, we can all party hearty on Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon and evening, and leave, tired but happy, on Monday.  This also seems to work out the best for most people's work holiday schedules.  Our past experience with NYE in mid-week was that this complicated many dancer's plans or negated them completely - they just couldn't work out the days off.  So, if you've been thinking of becoming an Excellent Adventurer for some time now, but were not sure if this was the year for you, please re-think it.  BTEA will probably not sponsor a NYE event for 2007/2008, so this will be the last one for a while.  We may instead put together something for Mardi Gras or Festivals Acadien, but nothing definite yet.

You can get maps and driving directions to many Acadiana clubs, restaurants, etc. by clicking here.  Some folks find these handy enough that they just print them all out and make them up into a booklet and take that along.  If that works for you, then please rip us off!

You can find listings of band schedules and other good information at the Times of Acadiana web site.

For Zydeco clubs especially, The Patsy Report is a great resource that you might want to peruse for schedules.

For dinner and dancing on New Year's Eve, one idea that is looking pretty good is Geno at Vermillionville.  Note: the page still refers to last year, but the phone number is valid and the prices and times are correct.   Here is some information about Vermilionville.

If you are driving in from points North and/or East, you might want to leave a day early and stop over in New Orleans and visit the Rock n' Bowl and check out Keith Frank on Zydeco Night.
