The Symphony is
run under the direction of a Board of Directors (BoD).
The BoD consists of elected offices, the Principal Conductor
and Artistic Director and appointed directors in coordination
with the Agent Stake. These are:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Principal Conductor and Artistic Director
the Agent Stake High Council Representative
Four at large membersof the Symphony
Members of the board will be assigned committee chairperson responsibilities for various functions of operating the symphony, such as public relations, symphony librarian, music, membership, finance, etc.
The
Officers and duties include:
President: Chairman of BoD, This position is a
nonvoting member of the BoD except in case of tie votes. The
President will preside and conduct Board meetings. The President
has overall leadership responsibilities of Orchestra
administrative function and insures operation of The Symphony in
accordance with this handbook and in accordance with Church Music
Handbook. The President coordinates cross stake issues with Agent
Stake and High Council Representative as required. The President
oversees recruitment of and appointment of the Artistic Director
and Principal Conductor as directed by the Board of Directors.
Vice President: A member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, the vice president leads the Symphony in absence of President and carries out duties as assigned by President.
Treasurer: This member of the Board of Directors, establishes and maintains the symphony's annual budget, report on actual expenses and revenue and forecast revenue and expenses. The Treasurer prepares and presents all expenses to the BoD for approval and forwards these requests for reimbursement to agent stake finance clerk. The Treasurer chairs the finance committee.
Secretary: The Secretary of the BoD has overall responsibility for maintaining and publishing administrative information materials of the orchestra including the orchestra roster, this handbook, the annual symphony schedule, and concert programs.
Artistic Director and Principal Conductor: This member of the BoD has overall responsibility for artistic direction of the Symphony. The Artistic Director and Principal Conductor is responsible for music selection for performances with advice from Members of the BoD. This board member chairs the Music Committe.
High Council Representative from the Vancouver West Stake is a member of the BoD and coordinates symphony issues with Stake President and stake financial clerk. He will coordinate inter-stake correspondence with the Agent Stake President.
At-Large Directors: Four at-large members of the board are elected from within the Symphony. These members of the board will be assigned as chairpersons to various committees.
Committees
Music Committee. This committee is chaired by the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director. Other members invited to work on this committee include: Assistant Conductors, Music Librarian, and other symphony members. This committee is responsible to select and library symphony music.
Public Relations. This committee is chaired by a member of the BoD and is responsible for advertising and media liaison. This responsibility includes informing area stakes and the public about coming concerts.
