Grizzlies* in Colorado
Bicycling Colorado's flat bike trails

Report and photos by Christina Reynen

In June 2001 Frank and I took our small RV and our bikes to Colorado, where we bicycled the beautiful - and flat - trails around Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, and Denver. Yes, Colorado has trails for bicyclists who rather not climb hills! Grand Junction is still developing its Colorado river trail, but we nevertheless found a very satisfying 25 mile round-trip on the finished trail. On the Glenwood Canyon trail we met several members of a bicycle club from Vail who told us about the many - mostly flat - rides between Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. Denver is criss-crossed with miles of flat trails, too many to bike in one vacation. The photos below are of the Glenwood Canyon trail along the Colorado river, and the Cherry Creek and North Platte trails in Denver. * Grizzly is the name given to a generally flat ride by our bicycle club, the Almaden Cycle Touring Club of San Jose CA.
