Welcome to the minimalist Redlawsk Family Web Site

Last (REAL) Update 6/3/06

(April 2008)

Well - we might update this SOMEDAY - but as of today (April 13, 2008) we haven't updated anything here in about 15 months.

Not that anything hasn't happend - the Iowa Caucuses, for example, and lots of other stuff. But you know how it is - never time to make the changes...

So if you're interested (not sure why you would be) - here's an ever older look at the Redlawsk family in Iowa City, IA!

(January 30, 2007)

Suffice it to say that a lot has been going on, no surprise there. Greg is at Cornell College, in Mt. Vernon, IA ( the FIRST Cornell) as a first year student, and Andrew is now in his second year at Loyola Chicago. Both are theatre majors, both are doing well, acting in lots of shows and more or less keeping up their grades.

Politics is back as well. Dave spent the fall working on the Loebsack for Congress campaign here in Iowa - a campaign that was supposed to fail. Oddly though, the candidate won, defeating a 30-year incumbent. Our Dave was the campaign Treasurer and an advisor to the candidate. It's a long story - one Dave might tell someday in book form - but an exciting one as well.

And now the Iowa Caucuses, 2008 version are less than a year away - that means candidates all over the place! And candidate's wives too, as this picture of Dave with Elizabeth Edwards shows!

You can catch up a bit with us by reading our Christmas 2007 letter.

Older stuff updated last in 2006...

Greetings!

This site is a way to communicate with our widespread family, show off what the kids are up to, and more.

It's ALL GREG, ALL THE TIME, in this update!

Graduation from West High was May 26, 2006. Now BOTH kids have graduated and are off to college.

Click here for some more pictures from graduation.

Graduation, May 26, 2006

MOM got to give Greg his diploma, since Aletia's on the School Board! Pretty cool!

NOW

THEN... Greg's 1st Grade, 1994
(Andrew was nearly 8)

Greg has decided to go to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Cornell offered him a very nice theatre scholarship. The school has made a major investment in the arts recently, including new performance facilities. Cornell is a good small liberal arts college about 20 miles from Iowa City.

And Greg's a star in the newspaper again! Here's a profile run on him that ran in the Iowa City newpaper on May 1.

During the past year Greg was one of the stars of the Good Time Company, West's Showchoir. Here's a taste -- video (relatively large) and audio only of Greg in his GTC solo.

(3/27/06) SOME EXCITEMENT AROUND OUR HOUSE THIS SPRING

First, Greg has had an incredibly successful year on the speech team at West High. This is the first year he has done speech and he has won numerous awards at competitions. But the big deal is that he will be going to the national tournament of the National Forensics League in June in Dallas, TX. Pretty cool, we think! The local paper ran a story recently on the speech team and included this pretty nifty picture of Greg and his speech partner.

And Andrew now has his own listing in the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) from his work as an extra in Flags of our Fathers, a movie directed by Clint Eastwood and opening later this year. Check out Andrew's listing! (Update - he's also been an extra in another movie starring Jennifer Anniston and Vince Vaughan.

ANDREW is a student at Loyola University Chicago. He negotiated his first year pretty well and was cast in the role of Dickon in Loyola's production of Secret Garden. Of course, we think he was pretty good! And in December 2005 he got a really cool chance to sing with the Soul Children of Chicago. Here's some audio from that concert, as well as some pictures.

Both guys got the chance to go on a cruise during Christmas 2005 with their grandparents. What an amazing trip they had. In addition to all the usual cruise things, BOTH were stars of karaoke competitions, each winning a shipwide competition. We don't have any audio of Greg (the guys didn't think to record him) but we do have Andrew singing his winning song.

POLITICS
Well, it seems that we're getting so much stuff about local and and national politics, we decided to move it to a separate page.... HERE!

John Edwards came to town at the end of February 2006 - is it the start of the presidential election of 2008? Here are a few pictures taken by Dave.

Some singing in 2005

Here are a couple of video clips (about 1Mb each). This one is of Andrew, Greg, and their friend Alec singing "He ain't Heavy."

The other is of Greg singing "Make them Hear You" from Ragtime, a song he's now done several times.

(Quality is kind of low in order to make the files small. Play them in a small video window and they won't look so bad!)

TRAVELS WITH THE MORGAN-REDLAWSK FAMILY

Spring 2005, Andrew and Greg went on a trip to Germany with their school language class. As part of the trip they spent five days living with families in Crimittschau, in the former East Germany. They traveled to a number of German cities and to Saltzburg, Austria. Eventually we'll probably get some pictures up here about this trip. Maybe...

Meanwhile, Aletia and Dave took the opportunity to travel as well; to Amsterdam for a week. They stayed at a wonderful, highly recommended, incredible Bed and Breakfast, called Suite 259. If you ever go to Amsterdam, try to stay there, with Peter and Aziz. You can read our very brief review of the place on Tripadvisor.com. On this page are a few pictures to whet your appetite, and maybe we'll get some more up here too.

SOME OLDER STUFF FROM THE PAST

ANDREW GRADUATED FROM IOWA CITY WEST HIGH ON MAY 28, 2005. CLICK HERE for a few graduation pictures!

1/25/05 - Check out the Cover Story, Iowa City Press-Citizen! All about "Students Producing Innovative Theatre"

12/27/04 - Andrew's featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette!

Thanksgiving 2004 - in the U.K!
We had the chance to take a brief trip to England, so see Dave's family in Henley, and generally play tourist! Well, we didn't get the photos up quite by New Year's, but click here to see a fairly extensive photo album! What was especially wonderful was that Aletia's mom, Wanda, and Dave's folks (Bernie & Judy) were able to be there too, along with his brother Mike, and cousin Jamie!

Halloween, 2004: BatBoy: The Musical

This is one of the odder shows the guys have ever been in! We have a few pictures (click on the poster). Andrew was the star of the show, and Greg had a key comic role. This show opened on October 29, 2004, just in time for Halloween!

The theatre group is City Circle Acting Company, in Coralville, Iowa.

Here are two (low quality) videos from Batboy. First is Andrew singing in the "Revival" scene, and the second is Greg and "Mrs. Taylor's Lullaby." These take a while to download, so be patient!

OLD Stuff from 2004, but family might still like to see...

July 2004

Greg went to a Showchoir camp at Indianhead Arts Center in Shell Lake, WI. The program is great fund and includes a performance at the end. Last year Greg did a solo of "Old Man River." This year he was featured twice. Once with a solo, "Make Them Hear You" from Ragtime, and the other as the featured soloist in the showchoir performance of "Luck be a Lady" from Guys and Dolls.

Spring 2004

March 2004 -- The guys were in Once Upon A Mattress at a local community theater.

April 2004 -- Greg's solo in the last Show Choir concert, in Muscatine, IA
