FTM2 Kevin Reilly's pictures from the early 80's
Kevin sent an entire CD of pictures from this period and we will put up a page or two at a time.

CIC - Those of us from the 60's OI Division would be hard pressed to recognize anything.

Fox Berthing - First they all got to dress like Chiefs, then they got to have face hair AND THEN THEY GOT PRIVACY CURTAINS!!!!

A fantail cookout on WestPac 80 or 81-82
USS Gridley CG-21 at dockside Yokosuka Japan (WestPac 80). The Gridley and 4 or 5 Fast Frigates had just docked from crossing the Pacific. We weathered 3 Typhoons back to back. The Gridley and her little sisters endured 53-degree rolls for days on end. The Gridley’s Captain, JJ McGrath, had ordered all non essential personal into our racks. We had to literally tie ourselves into our racks to stay in them.
Can anyone top this?

  GRIDLEY anchored at Hong Kong

Helo Ops
See the story about GRIDLEY having three helos on the fantail at one time.

FTM Kevin Reilly sea sick on watch at the forward missile house. This was only 1 of 2 times that I was seasick. The flammable fluids locker was next to the entrance to the forward missile house and the door was open. The fumes where what was making me sea sick. My sickness ended when I got some fresh air. Note I did not get sea sick during the 53-degree rolls on our first Pacific crossing in 80.
