Welcome to the Dime Store Prophets unofficial
homepage.
This page is here to show appreciation and information for the former
bay area band the Dime Store Prophets. Although their
careers only spawned two major releases (both on 5 Minute Walk)
they brought something so special to not only the San Fransisco
music scene
but to pop music at the time in general.
Their fresh sound, humble attitudes and down to earth
lyrical poetry brought more meaning and spirituality to pop music than
many bands had brought within their entire careers.
The fact that this band was one of Christians yet they
were accepted and respected in the mainstream says one thing.
The fact that they constantly were pushing to help and aid the less
fortunate while still gaining mainstream success, while always
exhibiting faith, that says another.
The band has seen this page (at least Masaki and Justin have
stopped by); if you would
like to email Masaki you can here:
Masaki...I
believe his name on AOL Instant Messenger is Masaki
as well and you can also right him there at aol.com.
If would like to hear the words of Masaki himself
you can read our correspondence over E-mail.

Justin can be reached here at his Justin Dillon Stevens Website.
-Dime Store Prophets was a band that hailed from the Bay Area in California. They
were verterans of the San Fransisco club scene. They were included as one
of BAM Magazines 24 best bands in the area and have opened for the likes of
Better Than Ezra,
Mudhoney, Stray Cats, Brian Setzer,
Mike Peters, Chris Isaak,
Flock of Seagulls, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and
hail from the same club scene that boast
Counting Crows,
Third Eye Blind, Train and Primus. They have released
two albums on
5 minute walk records. Their last one Fantastic Distraction was given distribution by Warner Brothers and included production work
by John Keane who has helped out on Vigilanties of Love albums along with R.E.M. and Widespread Panic (all Athens Georgia bands).
They were musically impressive in their own
right, and combined rich rockabilly influence with a real roots rock sound. They were great
live and are very approachable as musicians, so I guess at this point all we can hope for is a reunion someday.
