Mount Taylor Winter Quadrathlon |
This race starts in Grants, NM, and climbs to the summit of Mount Taylor
at 11,301 on bike, foot, skis, and snowshoes. From the summit, you reverse
the 4 events to get back to town. I was a bit disappointed with my time of
5:09:23, but it was still an awesome event. |

Needles hike (Canyonlands NP) |
This was a fantastic hike to celebrate my 30th birthday (1 day late). From the
Squaw Pass CG, Lori and I hiked the northern trail out to Chesler Park, went
CCW around Chesler Park, up the Joint Trail, out to Squaw Canyon crossing a
cool pass with ladders, over to Big Spring Canyon via another fun slickrock
pass, and back to the TH. 16.3 miles, 2230 up, 2310 down, 7:09. |
| 4/22 |
Grand Canyon hike |
Lori and I hiked down the Bright Angel Trail, crossed the silver bridge, crossed
back over the black bridge, and hiked up the South Kaibab Trail. This was an
awesome day with beautiful weather (despite the snowy start)! 4940 down, 5220
up, 6:46. |
| 6/16 |
Notch Couloir |
Mark O and I had perfect conditions for this intimidating route up Longs Peak. |
| 6/23 |
Culebra Peak |
While the climb itself wasn't that spectacular, Culebra was the only "official"
Colorado 14er that I had not climbed. I've finished the 14ers! Of course, I'm
far from being "done" with the 14ers. I did this as part of the 2001 CMC trip
to Culebra, my first CMC outing. |
| 6/27 |
Mesa Trail |
One of my goals has been to run the Mesa Trail in under an hour. I reached that
goal handily, running from south to north in 58:03. Now I need to do it in the
opposite direction. |

Chiefs Head/Alice/Isolation traverse |
As a peak bagger, this is what I love...a long day in the mountains with great
partners (Mark O and George B), a bunch of new summits, and a little bit of
technical climbing to make it interesting. We also climbed Tanima, The Cleaver,
and Mahana. |
| 8/18 |
Pikes Peak Ascent |
Back once again, this time just for the Ascent to save my knees. I set a PR by
almost 2 minutes, finishing in 3:15:58. Lori did awesome in her first time at
this race, finishing in 3:46:51. |
| 8/25 |
ACE |
This was a pseudo-adventure race among friends organized by Ryan M. Starting at
midnight, we hiked and navigated our way through the Byers Peak Wilderness for
13.5 hours and over 20 miles. |
| 9/1 |
Notabon to Little Pawnee traverse |
This was a fun little traverse, albeit a bit windy. I climbed Notabon, Audubon,
Paiute, Toll via the NW face, Pawnee, and then added some excitement (exposure,
lightning) with the traverse to Little Pawnee. 6:54. |
| 9/9 |
Lizard Head |
I had planned to attempt a Pfiffner Traverse this weekend, but an early winter
storm dumped on the Front Range. Fortunately, I was able to accompany George B
to the sunny San Juans. There, we met Gerry and Jennifer R and climbed this
crumbly peak with Jennifer, one of her final Colorado 13ers. |
| 10/21 |
Longs Peak - Keplinger's Couloir |
Bill W and I began our push to finish climbing Longs in every month of the year
with this outing. Bill needed Oct, Nov, Dec, Mar, and Apr, and I needed those
plus Feb and May. It was fun to climb from a completely different side of the
mountain. 7:07. |
| 11/13 |
Longs Peak - Keyhole Ridge |
After failing to summit via the Loft three days earlier, I took the day off and
came back with Bill W. We had a rope, gear, harnesses, ice axes, crampons, and
wore...running shoes. It was nice going light, but we were in knee-deep snow
getting to the False Keyhole. This is a quality route up Longs. 7:29. |
| 11/29-12/8 |
Mexico trip |
This was a great trip with Mike B, Sean S, Jeff D, and Brian C. We climbed La
Malinche and Orizaba, got sick, and visited Teotihuacán and the Museo Nacional
de Antropología. |
| 12/31 |
Longs Peak - Cables |
I cheated again on this my second one-day winter ascent of Longs by going with
Bill W and Tom K again. We climbed the Cables route roundtrip in 8:42. |
