WE, HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS CAN AND MUST HAVE A VOICE!
We simply like to treat people regardless of who they are, where they come from, and who pays for it. We do it fee for service or with third party payers. Besides looking for our interests, we have another and more important responsibility:
WE MUST WORK FOR A HEALTH CARE SYSTEM THAT RESPONDS TO OUR PATIENTS' NEEDS!.
It is unbelievable how we, mental health professionals, have been -so far- unable to organize ourselves to defend our professions and our patients from the so called "market forces" of greedy health corporations.. Click HERE for my presentation at the American Psychiatric Association Meeting in Toronto in August 1998, where I addressed this issue. I am glad to say that finally the American Medical Association is proposing that we physicians should get together as an Union to stand up for ours and our patients' rights. We must form a huge union of health care workers, that is, front line professionals who treat patients, to face the enormous and perverse threat of Health Corporations/HMOs/Managed Care.

the US Congress for a Single Payer Health Care?

If we, health care clinicians, get together we will have a say about the conditions under which we will practice our noble professions. The problem has always been... how can we do it? Although we belong to different disciplines we must find a way to work together because we are the ones on the front lines, treating people.
WE CARE!
HMOs and Managed Care For Profits are dismantling the American health care system. In Mental Health this has become a public calamity.
WHY?
Because for them, less care means more profits!
They have created a carve out of mental health services separated from the rest of medicine. This carve outs are then given to Behavioral Managed Care Corporations For Profits that are making it impossible for mental patients to have proper treatments in America!
