MTRC, Inc Timeline

1963: First meeting of MARC Retardate Trust. Original Trust prepared.

1965: Name changed to "Maryland Retardate Trust". First application approved. Membership fee set at $500. Members visited by Trustees and volunteers.

1974: Name changed to "Maryland Trust for the Retarded". 15 members.

1979: Name changed to "Maryland Trust for Retarded Citizens" (MTRC). Established case following services. Membership fee increased to $1,000.

1980: Trust Document was revised and brochures printed.

1981: Set target of 200 members to make MTRC solvent. Administrative and financial procedures developed and Trust Policies established. Luanne Frebertshauser became first part time Social Worker to do case management.

1982: First general membership meeting held. Membership fee increased to $1,200.

1984: First.issue of the MTRC Newsletter, The Trustee, was printed.

1985: Achieved goal of 200 members and became permanently established. First scholarship money of $1,200 was received. Monetary Trust established at Union Trust Co. Support Advocate project began using volunteer visitors. There were now 213 inactive and 5 active members.

1986: Computer system donated by the McNulty Foundation. Membership increased to $1,500.

1989: Formal Board Committees formed and 3 year plan of action developed. Fee increased to $2,000.

1990: MTRC office moved to Westminster. Fundraising efforts expanded.

1992: Membership was temporarily closed while actuarial studies conducted on feasibility of MTRC in future. Volunteer system was developed.

1993: Membership reopened under a restated program based on fee-for-services. Existing members were given opportunity to withdraw and receive refund of membership fees. 39 members withdrew.

1994: Services for members were defined. The first volunteer appreciation dinner was held and a volunteer training manual was written. Developing Care Plans was main focus.

1996: An Education Committee was formed to assist families with transition planning. A special future planning workshop was held in Montgomery County.

1997: A Sibling Network was established by the Education Committee. A Membership Directory was printed for families to use in networking. A toll free 800 number was added.

1998: The first MTRC Web page was developed and email services established.

2000: Long Range Planning is main topic. MTRC Investment Fund was moved to BB&T. There are now 248 Inactive and 38Active Members of MTRC.

2001: Updating the clients' files and surveying families regarding Care Plans was focus. There are now 244 Inactive and 42 Active Members of MTRC.

2002: MTRC began process to incorporate as private non-profit corporation. Investment Fund was moved to Alex Brown. There are now 241 Inactive and 44 Active Members of MTRC.

2003: Incorporation process continued. There are now 239 Inactive and 44 Active Clients.

2004: Incorporation completed. Marketing Grant allowed printing new literature and distribution of educational material. There are 240 Inactive and 43 Active Clients.
