New MTRC Staff - Added 4/18/07
MTRC welcomes LAURIE DAHLKA as its new Administrative Assistant. Laurie will be working part time in the office assisting the staff and Board of Directors. Laurie's husband, Jeff, serves as the Treasurer on the MTRC Board. His strong dedication to the MTRC program was the encouragement behind her decision to apply for the position after being a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years. Laurie is active in her community and provides volunteer services at her children's school. She and Jeff live in the Glyndon area with their daughter and two sons.
MTRC is proud to announce that LEONARD COHEN has joined the program as a Case Manager in the Montgomery County area. Leonard lives in Olney, Maryland, and has been active in the developmental disabilities field for many years. He has worked as a Residential Counselor for Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, was a Job Coach for The Arc of Montgomery County, and has worked as a Service Coordinator for Service Coordination, Inc. in Montgomery County. In addition to his case management work, Leonard owns a lawn service which employs individuals with disabilities. We are very pleased that he will be advocating for our MTRC families.
New Board Member - Added 4/18/07
MARTIN LAMPE joined the MTRC Board of Directors in September 2006. Martin is a physicist with degrees from Harvard and University of California. He has worked for nearly 40 years at the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC, where he is currently one of a small number of senior scientists. In addition to his professional associations, Martin has served for many years on the board, as an officer, and as education chair of The Arc of Prince George's County. He is also a board member and Outreach Coordinator for PG County Special Olympics.
Martin and his wife, Barbara, have been active in disability advocacy since their son, Will, was born with Down syndrome 23 years ago. They live in the University Park area with Will and their daughter, Bekkah, who will soon graduate from UMBC. Martin is a lifelong tennis player and exercise enthusiast, as well as an opera lover. Late in life, he learned to play golf so that he could play with Will.
MTRC is very fortunate to have Martin join the Board. He stated that "he would like to help MTRC prosper, and to help other families learn about what MTRC can do for them."
