Here are a few cautions:
- There are many files in Windows
which contain settings that are essential to computer
functions and to the data in the programs Windows runs. Altering the wrong file may make the computer inoperable. So it's best to consult your
owners manual and have some knowledge about what
your doing before editing any file in the Windows
directory. Note, files with the extension .ini
.log .dat are particularly important as the computer
looks to these for its basic data. For example, win.ini and
autoexec.bat are important. Also, basic data
for each computer program is often stored in files
with a similar name as we saw with the file
winmine.ini. In addition, most essential data files are in
the "root" (see owners manual). Try typing the word
"root" at the dos prompt to see which directories are
most important.
