My Family Tree

Marsha J. Levine

( Maternal Side)

About 1820, in a small village outside of the city of Vilna (Lithuanian) , a boy, Aryeh Tabachowitz, married his first cousin, Scheine Kamaiko. They had six (6) children.

1. Joshua
2. Isaac
3. Bezalel
4. Leibe
5.Beile Mindel
6. Malka

I have followed Aryeh and only one of his daughters, Beile Mindel, for a century and a half to bring up to date our branch of this complex construction of a genealogy that spans around the world.

Beile Mindel Tabachowitz married Schlome Crasko. They had five (5) known children:

1. Sarah
2.Raisel
3. Harry
4. Mollye
5. Sam                  Descendants of Raisel & Asher Jaffe (1940)

In the nine (9) generation that have descended from Aryeh & Scheine, we have found the following surnames:

Tabachowitz, Gitelson, Crasko, Jaffe, Yaffe, Meltzer, Levitan, Komaiko, & Commike.
(many names have been changed, shortened or misspelled.)

I am still searching for more family, so if you think that you might be related, please let me know.  MJL1@ix.netcom.com  We have also printed up a complete Family Tree Book, which includes all of the history, dates, and pictures of  the nine (9) generations.

( Paternal side)

This year I have started the search for my father's side. This has been much harder, as there are many twists and turns:

My grandfather, Joseph Mozinski, was born abt. 1877 in Kiev (Lithuania). He met and married Jennie Brahensky (born 1879) and they had four (4) children:

1. Sol
2. Grace
3. Ben
4. Dorothy

They made their way to America, but in 1911 Jennie was murdered, and shortly thereafter,  Joseph married Rebecca Koslofsky. She had one (1) son by previous marriage:

1. Louis

Together, Joseph and Rebecca had five (5) more children:

1. Harriet
2. Lillian
3. Ilene
4. Maurice (my father)
5. Bernard

                                  The Mozinski Family (1940)

I have not been able to trace much back before my grandparents and have been looking for any more family that might be alive today to fill in the missing pieces. We know that Joseph and his first wife left Lithania and made their way to Berlin Germany. They then took a ship  out of Hamburg to America, where they finally settled in Chicago Illinois.

I also know that Joseph had a brother and many cousins that may have come to America, but we don't know who or where they are.

Rebecca (my grandmother) also had relatives here in the States. But again, I don't have a clue as to who they are.

Surnames found:  Mozinski, Mosen, Koslofsky, Brahensky (spelling may be wrong due to translation).
