Royal Caribbean has agreed to extend the time that they
will offer this special group rate until all the cabins in our block are sold. Please check with the Booking Agent
(mailto:cherie@mustcruise.com) to confirm availability. As of August 25, there were still cabins available but be aware that the cabin prices may
increase. When you make your reservation, you will lock in the price at that time.
TIARA (The Irish Ancestral
Research Association) is organizing an Irish genealogy cruise in January 2009. TIARA
is a nonprofit organization established to develop and promote the growth, study and exchange of ideas among people and organizations
interested in Irish genealogical and historical research and education. We are
based in Boston but have a national membership. You do not have to be a member
to join the cruise. We want to create an opportunity for everyone to learn how
to research Irish families.
TIARA organizes an annual research
trip to Ireland. The trip is expensive, and it is very important that attendees are familiar with Irish resources
before they go to the repositories. It maximizes their research time, and limits frustration for researchers.
We have decided that anyone who participates in the Irish Genealogy Conference in January will be given priority to join a
TIARA research trip in the future. Participants will benefit more in the "hands-on research" if they understand
the resources. Our trips have been oversubscribed for the last several years, so this is an valuable offer. It
will also make our time more productive in Ireland if we know that everyone understands the research opportunities.
CONFERENCE AND CRUISE INFORMATION
DATES: Saturday, January 10 through Sunday,
January 18, 2009
SHIP:
Royal Caribbean, Independence of the Seas
ITINERARY:
8 night Eastern Caribbean cruise, begins and ends in Fort Lauderdale
Genealogy conferences held on cruise ships have become very popular. The price is comparable to attending a national conference and you get a fabulous vacation at the same
time! This is also a wonderful opportunity to travel with friends and family
who are not interested in your passion for genealogy. There really is something
for everyone on modern ships.
It will be fun! You can learn if you want, or take it easy. There are no grades
and no tests. There will be at least eight "hard subject" presentations during each day at sea for those who really
want to get their monies worth. We are also planning a number of fun presentations that anyone can attend.
Would you like a printed brochure on this trip? Just email Mary
Ellen Grogan (mailto:megrogan@ix.netcom.com). She will be happy to email you a copy or send a paper version in
the mail. Just let her know the address. If you have a friend who might be interested but does not have access
to the Internet, just send the address. We will take care of it. We don't want to leave anyone out!
John Grenham has given a video interview on genealogy cruises. Check out what he has to say.

Cruising (courtesy of Dick Eastman’s Newsletter)
Megan Smolenyak was one
of the speakers on board the 2007 Wholly Genes Cruise. She and her video camera went almost everywhere. She has now put together
a 14-minute video that shows the essence of what it is like to take a genealogy cruise. The video features clips from genealogy
presentations [including John Grenham], hosted breakfasts, one-on-one consultation sessions, the food in the dining rooms,
lounging around the pool in the sun, and much more. If you have never been on a genealogy cruise, you will probably
enjoy seeing what goes on. Go to Roots Television on the Internet and click on 'Genealogy Cruisin'. http://www.rootstelevision.com
