+ Society has made it quite clear that traditional constructs from nutrition, spinal alignment, psychosomatic medicine and acupuncture are among the healing modalities that patients want. Are these constructs as important as conventional anatomy, physiology, biochem and cell biology ? Should they be integrated into the preclincal and clinical curriculum ? Should they replace some topics and courses, including 4th yr selectives ? How will they be integrated with new innovations in imaging, surgery, neuroscience and molecular biology ? Additionally, patients want to be cured and only tolerate referrals while the insurance companies are willing to pay for multiple "primary care" practioners. Combination degree programs could emerge as solutions to these dilemmas. Curricular optimization will be required to make them efficient and effective. |
