Magless Design - 2004
Finished Piece:
Panels of parts, masked and ready for sandblasting:
Me sandblasting:
My 2004 Magless design is about 2" wide by 1.5" high.
It consists of three layers of glass - all Bullseye COE 90.
The bottom layer is 3mm black with silver iridizing. Part of the irid is removed to make a rolling hill design.
The middle layer is 3mm clear.
The top layer consists of three dicrhoic design elements.
The detailed designs are created with vinyl masks and sandblasting. The design was created using AutoCAD. The design was then cut into vinyl (like the stuff you see everyday on vinyl sign banners). The vinyl mask was applied to the glass. The glass was then sandblasted to remove the dichroic/iridized coating on the un-masked areas. Next, I cut apart the individual pieces from the panels of parts and rounded the corners. Lastly, I assembled the pieces and fused the maglessoids in a single firing.
