DocuMax
Document Management and Conversion Tool
Images can be deleted from the "Target" panel by pressing the "Del" key. Pressing "Del" while on the "Source" panel will prompt the user if they want to delete the actual file. Two toolbars found above the enlarged image on the right allow for annotations and effects such as adding text, despeckle, deskew, adding colored rectangles etc. Clicking on the hand symbol, for example, puts you in a mode where the mouse wheel will zoom in and out of the enlarged picture and clicking on the picture while moving the mouse around will move the picture around too (if the picture is large enough).
Once images are prepared in the "Target" panel, select "Tools" from the main menu and select "Save Target to File". Decide whether the file should be saved as a Tiff or a PDF file and enter a file name. Press "Save" to save. Selecting "Email Target" from the "Tools" menu option sends an email with the images in the "Target" panel attached as a single PDF file. On the menu used to save files is an "Advanced" button which lets you change the image quality settings. These settings are also available from the main menu option "Preferences" under "File".
Black and white images should use
G4Fax for the best compression. There are two types of compression
for color: lossy and lossless. ZIP, LZW and Packedbits produce no loss in image quality while JPEG compression produces the smallest files but also causes a loss in image quality. With JPEG the image quality is adjustable with the higher the percentage selected the better the image quality but the larger the image file. Of the lossless compressions, ZIP performs the best but can not be read by many TIFF readers (it is becoming more popular however). LZW is the next best performer and can be read by most TIFF readers - it is therefore the default. Both gray and color images can be saved as black and white for maximum image compression.
In addition to Image Quality settings, the Preferences menu is also used to select the scanner and to make some changes to the appearance of the thumbnails. The name given to the image file attached to an email is specified here.
Standard Windows keystrokes work with DocuMax including:
Ctrl – A = Select All,
Ctrl – Left Mouse Click = Multi-Select/De-Select
Shift – Left Mouse Click = Multi-Select a Range
F5 - Refresh Directory
Pressing the right mouse button while over "Source" or "Target" images reveals options available for single or multi-selected images. For example, selected image files can be copied from the "Source" panel to another directory in the directory panel (or the Window’s Explorer). Selected images can also be printed or deleted.
