Matthew 5:1-12

Initial Acquaintance/Rough Translation

(DH) Rough Translation

1 Having seen the crowds, he went up into the mountain, and, having sat down, [there] came toward him his disciples;
2 and having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying:

3 Blessed [happy] [are] the poor in spirit [with, by means of spirit?],
because of/for them is the kingdom of the heavens.
4 Blessed [are] the ones who mourn [experience sorrow],
because they themselves will be consoled/encouraged [be called alongside].
5 Blessed [are] the gentle/humble ones,
because they themselves will inherit the earth [will receive what God has promised to God's people?].
6 Blessed [are] the ones who are hungering and thirsting with respect to [the] righteousness,
because they themselves will be satisfied. 7 Blessed [are] the ones who are merciful,
because they will be shown/receive mercy.
8 Blessed [are] the ones who are pure in [by means of; with respect to] the heart,
because they themselves will see [the] God.
9 Blessed [are] the ones who are making peace,
because they themselves will be called sons [children] of God.
10 Blessed [are] the ones who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
because of/for them is the kingdom of the heavens [cf. v3.].
11 Blessed are you whenever they will reproach/insult you, and [whenever] they will persecute [you] and speak every [kind of] evil against you, lyingly, because of me. 12 Rejoice and be very glad, because your reward [is] manifold in the heavens; for in this way they persecuted the prophets, the ones [who were] before you.
