Ankanian

The story goes that Ankanian1 was originally an artificial language. It was not created to unify people as for example esperanto, but rather, just the opposite, to separate people. It was created for a group of people who saw the world and found it lacking. They saw the violence and the hatred. They saw with frustration how nothing could ever change because of the ignorance of the human species. When they saw others who felt the same way; and also saw that they had achieved a kind of spiritual insight, they formed a secret2 society whose only external mark was the use of Ankanian. The society (ankanta) defined a core knowledge that linked all the members. There were two types of knowledge defined. Primarily there was the established knowledge (sa-ghorna) whose acceptance was required for membership in the society. Secondary to this was exploratory knowledge (ro-ghorna). This was flexible hypothesis which would be conditionally accepted or believed on an individual basis until which time it became untenable. Such hypothises were not random, but needed to be supported; and argument amoung the society was expected and common. ( More about this)

The ankanian language is a very simple, but specific and disambiguous language. Inter-relation was a prominent concept at the time of its creation and the language shows many relations along different lines. Though the language has no relation to any other language, the vocabulary is very easy to pick up, since very few words need to be learned cold (that is: without having a related element to suggest its meaning). I would guess that there are about 270 roots that are arbitrary (that would have to be learned without any reference). Though mnemonically simple the language is somewhat structured and some may find this difficult.

1. The word "Ankanian" is an anglicization from Ankanya who are the people that speak the language. The language in Ankanian would be called Tunkana. It was also called Avesta in the past (which simply means "the language"), though this name has dropped out of use.
2. It remains a secret even after virtually everything about the society has been posted here. It is a secret in plain view. Nobody will ever believe it, unless they have already determined its truth for themselves, in which case, they have become a friend and ally of the ankanta and secrecy is no longer required.
