Too
often we think that our own lives are simply not exciting enough to be the topic of a book.
Yet as genealogists & family historians, we spend our time searching for clues
that will tell us how our ancestors lived, what they thought and felt, and why they ended up
in the places they did. Oh, to be lucky enough to find an old letter or maybe a
journal written by an ancestor!
Yet,
we fail to realize that the technology of today actually prevents us from keeping any real
record of our own lives!
Technology
has changed the manner in which we communicate. We will email or “instant message” our families and friends.
Or make a long distance phone call, which used to be a rare event, without thinking
twice.
While
we communicate more than ever, we don’t keep any records of our thoughts!
We don’t write letters to share our news or even think about keeping a journal
anymore. And 100 years from now, our
descendants will curse the “trash bin” that erased our email or find our words scattered
among the air waves – lost forever. Yet, as
genealogists, we should know better than to destroy our own records!
Therefore,
it is more important than ever for you to Write
Your Life Story!
