Reporting to the Director of Resource and Database Management, participates in university-wide virtual library initiatives and the application and development of new modes of intellectual access to electronic business information based on emerging standards, provides intellectual access to the library's collections, creates original authority records according to national standards, performs a leadership role in the development and continuous improvement of departmental policy and work flow, acts as a resource person on bibliographic databases, assists with the development and maintenance of the department's Web site, and trains and supervises library asisstants. Required/Preferred Education, Experience, Skills: ALA accredited MLS required; 1-2 years bibliographic control experience in an academic or special library; must be flexible and self-motivated with a strong interest in developing and implementing innovative virtual library projects, including metadata initiatives, web page design and developing thesauri and classification systems; excellent knowledge of traditional standards for bibliographic description and machine-readable formats (AACR2, USMARC, etc.); knowledge of emerging metadata standards; reading knowledge of one foreign language; extensive experience with Internet and PC software packages, particularly Windows95, MS Word and Excel, integrated library systems, and bibliographic utilities; excellent analytical, communication, training, and planning skills; creativity and initiative; ability to prioritize work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; knowledge of business and economics subject areas preferred.
