Conchologists of America Trophy Presented to the
scientific exhibit which best advances the
interest in shells and shell collecting. It is given only to a blue ribbon winner and may
not receive another
major award at the same show. This exhibit may not receive a second COA award on the same
exhibit
unless it has been changed 50% and cannot be won by a shell dealer or professional
malacologist.
The Dupont Trophy Presented by the
Delaware Museum of Natural History for the most outstanding
exhibit judged to be the "most instructive or inspiring to visitors because of its
attractiveness, educational
value and scientific accuracy." Professionals/Dealers are not eligible for this award.
The Masters Trophy Presented
by the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum and Educational Foundation
of Sanibel, Florida and established to promote an interest in shells and shell collecting
by encouraging
displays of high quality exhibits which have previously won any of the "broad
category" major awards at
shell shows. These awards include the Conchologists of America Trophy, the DuPont Trophy
and the
Smithsonian Award. Exhibits that have won other top level awards
similar to the Masters Award such
as “Best of the Best” trophy given out by the Marine Mote Laboratory are
NOT eligible.
Must enter in Category 22. NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY OTHER AWARD.
The Dr. R. Tucker Abbott AwardThe Dr. R. Tucker Abbott Award Presented to the best
self-collected exhibit (See Rule #8) in
memory of Dr. R. Tucker Abbott who always said "the collector in the field is where
it all happens".
The Fossil Trophy Presented to
the best exhibit of fossil shells.
The Junior Rosette Presented to the best individual Junior
Exhibit in Categories 15a or 15b.
If the display is not entered in the Junior Category, it must state "Junior
Exhibitor" in order to be eligible
for this award. Youth must be under 18 years of age.
First Time Scientific
Exhibitor Trophy Given to an exhibitor in
Category 18 who has never
exhibited in a shell show/festival before.
The Astronaut Trail Shell
Club Arts and Crafts Trophy Presented to the most original and
creative arts or crafts exhibit.
The Astronaut Trail Shell
Club Collectible or Antique Trophy Presented to the most original
and outstanding exhibit of shell collectibles or antiques.
Special Trophies
Shell of the
Show Awarded to the one very special, outstanding shell from any
scientific exhibit and
collected in any manner.
World-wide Self Collected Awarded to one
self-collected, world-wide shell considered outstanding
from any scientific exhibit.
Florida Self Collected Awarded to one
self-collected Florida shell considered as outstanding from
any scientific exhibit.
Ribbons First, Second, Third and Honorable
Mention - given to all categories at the discretion of
the judges.
Judges Special Rosettes One rosette per judge given at
the discretion of each
individual judge.
