Proof of U. S. Citizenship Requirement

Prior to the
start of flight training, each student pilot must present the following
to their FAA Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) to prove their U.S.
citizenship:
- Photo ID such as state-issued driver’s license or
state-issued non-driver ID card
- Original birth certificate to show to your flight
instructor
- Your flight instructor will give you the mandatory
endorsement in your logbook to attest to your U.S. citizenship. An example
is shown below.
- "I certify that [insert student's name] has
presented me a [insert type of document presented, such as a U.S. birth
certificate or U.S. passport, and the relevant control or sequential number
on the document, if any] establishing that [he or she] is a U.S. citizen or
national in accordance with 49 CFR 1552.3(h). [Insert date and instructor's
signature and CFI number.]"
- Your flight instructor will need a copy
of your birth certificate and government photo ID to retain in your flight
training records for a period of five years.
