A-1 William Adolphus McKenzie, born ca 1775, probably Scotland.
1840 Boone Co, KY census: William (age 60-70) seems to be with his son, Gustavus

B-1 Gustavus Adolphus McKinzie, born 7-4-1820 (FL, AL, LA or at sea), died 3-26-1868 Greene Co, IN, married 1st 11-7-1839 Boone Co, KY Sarah J. Riley, born 1-7-1821 KY, died 4-8-1860 Greene Co, buried Dobbins Cem. Gustavus and wife Sarah (nee Riley) McKinzie (also seen as McKenzie in the same document) enter into a sale of property in Boone Co, KY on 3 Dec 1839.

He married 2nd 1-31-1861 Greene Co, IN Nancy Ann Duke, born 12-30-1838 Boone Co, KY, daughter of John and Mary Matthews Duke.  She died 2-18-1889, age 51, Bloomfield, IN, buried Dobbins Cem. 

All three of their deaths are indexed in the county deaths as McKenzie.

1850 census Boone Co, KY: Gustavus McKenzie 40 FL, Sarah J. 29 KY, John J 9, Riley J. 7, Henry J. 11, Richard Hardesty was with them.

1860 census, Center Twp Greene Co, IN, Gustavus McKenzie 39 LA, Baley (sp) G. 17 KY, Henry 14 KY. He is a tobacconist

1870 census Fairplay Twp, Greene Co, IN: Nancy 30 KY, Adaline 8 IN, Ida 4, Artemica 2, Henry J. 23 KY

1880 census in Jackson Twp, Greene Co IN: Nancy is with her step-son, Henry, and  daughters Pelia F. (Ida Frances)  and Artia (Artemica )

His son's application for a pension stated that they had first lived near Hobbieville, Center Twp, later Jackson Twp, IN. Sarah J. Riley was listed in a deed in Boone Co, KY between Henry Riley, Sr and Gustavus McKenzie and Sally McKinzie late Sally Riley,  by Joseph Lampkin . Page 157-159.

C-1 John J. McKinzie, born 9-2-1840 Boone Co, KY, died 11-21-1857 Greene Co.

C-2 Bailey Garrison McKinzie, born 10-28-1845 Boone Co, KY, died 9-28-1926 Soldier's Home, Lincoln Co, NB, married 6-14-1888 Galesburg, IL Jennie C. Grant. They had been separated 28 yrs when he applied for pension 1-15-1898. Sarah E. Bogue applied for funeral costs and was listed at same address where Bailey died - 3015 Charles St.

His name is spelled McKinzie on his military records.
Enlisted in Company H, 31st Infantry Regiment Indiana on 20 Sep 1861.
Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 30 May 1863.
Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 13 Sep 1864.
Promoted to Full Captain on 1 Mar 1865.
He was shown on the pension record as 5' 7" and 184 pounds light complexioned, with blue eyes and brown hair. He had been pensioned at $25. a month and on 10-28-1916 it was increased to $72. Several letters are written by Bailey requesting this increase. Cards are also enclosed with the names of Adolph and Gustavus A. McKenzie. There was no information on these cards.

D-1 Roger G. McKinzie, born 7-2-1889. Is he the George F. who married Della C. Padgett 6-19-1911?

C-3 Henry J. McKinzie, born 10-30-1846, died 1933, married late in life. He was living with his father when he applied for a pension 9-15-1886. He enlisted at Terre Haute, IN and served as Pvt in Co E, 97th Ind Inf. He was hospitalized in Huntsville, AL during the Civil War. He made a statement 1915 that he had been married, but divorced 2 or 3 yrs ago. He was 5' 4", 138 pounds, dark with brown eyes, in a report dated 1925. He stated he had no children.

1900 census Greene Co, IN: Henry McKenzie 50, born Oct 1849 IN. He was boarding, and was a salesman in dry-goods.  

1910 census Lyons North Ward, Greene Co, IN: Henry McKenzie , age 60. He is boarding and working in a general store. He reports he was born KY, his father AL and mother VA.

C-4 Adolphus McKinzie, born 10-11-1852 Boone Co, KY, died 1-20-1853 Greene Co, IN.

By 2nd marriage:

C-5 Sarah Adeline McKinzie, born 3-8-1862, died 7-12-1949 Brownwood, MO, married 3-8-1877 Ambrose Ashcraft. She was shown as Addie on marriage record, book K, page 170. Sarah told a grandson that her name was spelled "McKinzie." Her daughter, Mayme Jones gave the information for Sarah's death certificate. She reported Sarah's father was born in Scotland, whereas Gustavus never stated that. He said Louisiana and Florida. There is always the chance that he did not supply the information for the census taker, but someone else for him. Her brother, Henry, once reported their father was born in Alabama.
