Fuller Genealogy

A-1 Unknown FULLER, born NY, married Catherine Small.  They were living in Ohio in 1833 when their son Daniel was born. Indications are that they lived in Cuyahoga Co, Ohio at this time. His wife married the second time to a Mr Banker, by whom she had three children: Joseph Banker, John Banker and Margaret Banker. The daughter married Lenton/Lew Snider. All three are found in early Allen and Adams Counties, Indiana. Daniel's daughters lived in the homes of both Joseph and John Banker at various times.

B-1 Daniel Lafayette Fuller , born 1-30-1833 Ohio, died 3-18-1924 Lake Co, FL, married 6-14-1857 Allen Co, IN Olive Ann O'Hara , born 12-27-1839 Allen Co, IN, died 5-21-1864 Allen Co, buried Bethel Cemetery in Allen Co, IN, with others of her family. Daniel is buried in the NE section of Evergreen Cemetery in Lake Co. The funeral was conducted by Edge Mercantile in Lake Co and some of the records have been destroyed. The state cannot locate a record, so apparently the event was not forwarded on to the state by the mortuary.

Mr Julian Rowe remembers that Daniel Fuller attended the Methodist Church, which at one time was in charge of the cemetery. It had been a city maintained cemetery before the church took it over.

Olive Ann was daughter of Hugh O'Hara and Sarah Hopple . Daniel Fuller fathered a child by his deceased wife's sister, Mary Jane O'Hara, but they were never married. She had gone to help take care of the children after the death of her sister.  Mary Jane was 15 years 5 months old when her son Perry Fuller was born. Perry was sent to be raised by his uncle, John O'Harra, and Mary Jane was trained in the art of hat-making. She owned and operated a rooming house while living in Everett, Washington.

Daniel married 2nd 9-2-1872 Adams Co, IN Mary (Minnie) E. Whitcomb, born 1849 Indiana, daughter of  Louis Whitcomb and Mary Ann Meach . Louis was son of Philo Whitcomb of Greene Co, NY. They showed in the 1880 census Vermilion Co, IL, in Ross township. He had his two daughters, by Olive Ann O'Hara, with them. In 1900 the census shows the daughters gone, but they have a nephew, Edgar K. Fuller, with them. Edgar was born FL with parents, born SC. A picture exist in the family of an Edgar Bradford, so their is some confusion over his true identity.

His son reported in the 1880 census that his parents were born New York. It could be said that 90% of the Fullers came from that state. Very few are found in the south. Sixty-five families lived in New York in 1790. Twice that in 1800. This is the period when a parent for Daniel would have been born. The 1920 census reported his parents were born in Ohio, but is probably incorrect.

Daniel is not located in the 1910 census, but in 1920 he and Mary are in Groveland, Lake Co, FL, which is not very far from Disney World. Here he planted an orchard of orange trees. Near the house are giant pecan trees from which he sent a bag full once to his "second family" in Everett, WA. His grandson, my father Victor Perry Fuller, could remember this, but he never met his grandfather.

In a 1980 trip to Florida I took pictures of the Fuller property and talked to the man who had the funeral records. He could find no information. The state is not able to show a record of a death entry. One reason for this might be that the mortuary did not record the death with the state.

I have corresponded with the family that own the Fuller farm now. They very kindly copied all of their documentation. I talked to a Mr. Engells, of Groveland, who told me that he remembered Daniel. He said he was a small man and always came to town wearing his rubber boots. I gathered they were also muddy from the tone of his voice. He did go on to say Daniel was a hard worker. The farm is located Highland Farm and Dixie Highway South, now Red Wing Road.

It is most likely Daniel is the sixteen year old found in Wabash Co, IN, Noble township, in the 1850 census with Benson Starr, age 49, born VA, wife Casandra, 46 KY, and Lilly Wallace, 40 NC. No tie appears with these people. The 1860 census shows him in Marion Twp Allen Co, Indiana. Daughter Eliza is 2 years old. His daughter wrote in a diary that her father rode from Wabash to Fort Wayne to visit his mother.

Daniel is living in Fort Wayne at the time of the 1870 census. His daughter Eliza is with Daniel's brother, John Banker, in Preble Twp in Adams Co. Her sister Margaret is with his brother, Joseph Banker, in Fort Wayne, Allen Co.

Daniel bought land in sec 34 of Marion Twp in 1863 and sold it in 1864. He shows next in a deed when he bought land from his son-in-law, Mason T. Small, in 1889 in Vermilion Co, IL. There are many deed records after that showing among them sales to Mary's nephew, Carl Lewis Lehmann, and Daniel's grandson, John D. Small . The last deed is dated 1920.
