John Coonley, born ca 1720 Germany, came US 1760, died 1810, buried Clinton Old Stone Church, NY.  Vol. Rev. Sol. in 4th Reg. of NY.  He married Catherine Schaae b Wurzenburg  (Wurttemburg), Germany, d 1795. Her name is also seen as Scales & Schael.

COONLEY-Platt Coonley, one of Coxsackie’s most prominent citizens and best-known business men, dies on Tuesday at his residence on Elm street, having been stricken by apoplexy a week ago. The funeral services were held at the house on Thursday and were conducted by the Rev. Chas W. Baldwin of Christ’s Church; interment in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Coonley was born in the town of Greenville in 1829, and came to this village about forty years ago, for a time engaging in the grocery business and later becoming a member of the Reed & Powell Transportation Co., of which he was president until in January, 1911, he sold out his interest in the organization. For some twenty years he had been president of the National Bank of Coxsackie, succeeding David M. Hamilton and holding this office till the day of his death. He also was postmaster of Coxsackie, under President Harrison.
