I found the waterlily that became "Maroon" at Longwood Gardens, outside Philadelphia, PA. I was drawn to it by the unusual maroon leaves and the opportunity to paint a plant that is not predominantly green. I enhanced the blueness of the water to make a richer painting. I love the way just a bit of green shows up on the undersides of the leaves.
