This iris was growing in an amazing and varied iris garden in the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. We were there to see my large solo show in the entrance building. I wanted to enter into the light-filled room at the center of this flower, with its hairbrush threshold and arched windows. The tall petals form a dark wall behind and the sweeping lawn in front of this imaginary home.
