The Algonquin Club is an educational, international, not-for-profit organization for the study of Great Lakes region
history. Staffed entirely by volunteers, it is the only known international local history society. Membership is open to all
people with an interest in the heritage of Detroit, Windsor and the Great Lakes. (see the Executive Members page for more
details) Currently, the total membership in Canada and the United States is over 120 people. Activities include publications,
community sponsorship and dinner presentations -- all with a focus on things historical.
The Algonquin Club supports selected history programs in the region. It is a founding and continuing sponsor of the annual
Local History Conference at Wayne State University in Detroit.
Regular meetings of the Algonquin Club are held monthly from September through May with the venue alternating between
the two border cities. Each evening dinner is followed by a keynote address on a subject of regional history. Guests are welcome,
but reservations are required.
