DISTRICT 1 REPORT FROM DR. TAKHAR
 
District 1 held its quarterly meeting at the LA Athletic club on April 8th 2009. The Spring meeting was well attended by private practitioners as well as attendees from both of the educational programs in LA county. Our special speaker, Attorney Christopher Angelo, spoke to us about getting paid appropriately as an expert when an expert opinion is requested through subpoena or otherwise. Co-associate directors, Jaspreet Takhar, MD and Sheba Jilani, MD organized this quarterly district meeting with funding from their sponsor, Sportcat. They are both fourth year PM&R residents at UCI graduating this year. Jaspreet plans to go into private practice upon graduation and Sheba will be joining a pain fellowship. During the meeting, Sportcat gave a live demonstration of its latest products in balance training and fall risk assessment. A reminder was told to all attendees about the annual meeting in Disneyland. We thank all for attending and we will inform you when our next meeeting will take place.

CSPMR DISTRICT 5 QUARTERLY MEETING

Medications and current research”

Dr. Sean Mackey will be speaking on current updates and neurobehavioral research in fibromyalgia.

 

Sean Mackey, MD, Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor at Stanford in the Departments of Anesthesia as well as Neurosciences Director and Chief of the Pain Management Division. As Director of the Stanford Systems Neuroscience and Pain Lab, Dr. Mackey’s primary research interest involves the use of advanced research techniques such as neuroimaging, psychophysics and neurobehavioral assessment, to investigate the neural processing of pain and neuronal plasticity in patients with chronic pain. Dr. Mackey has served as principal investigator and investigator for multiple NIH, foundation and industry-sponsored protocols to investigate chronic pain and evaluating novel analgesics for acute and chronic pain.

REPORT OF DR. ALICE TSAI: 
 
Spring 2007 CSPMR District 1 Meeting 
 
District 1 held its Spring meeting on
March 29, 2007 at the historic downtown

Los Angeles Athletic Club with a great turn out of local physicians and guests.

Among the special guests were the CEO of the Los Angeles County Medical

Association, Mr. Arthur Auer, and Executive Officer, Dr. Eileen Chun,

showing their support for the California Society of Physical Medicine and

Rehabilitation. Speaker for the evening was Dr. Ronald Takemoto on the

topic of Impairment Rating for the Low Back Pain According to the AMA

Guide Fifth Edition. After completing his residency in PM&R at UCI in

1987, Dr. Takemoto was in private practice for many years. He was at the

Sharp Rehabilitation Center in San Diego until 2000. During that time he

was also a volunteer faculty instructor in the Department of PM&R at UCI.

He then went to Albuquerque, New Mexico to learn interventional spine

injections under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Delahoussaye, and returned to

his alma mater at the VA Long Beach Rehabilitation Medicine Department

in 2004. His current interests are outpatient musculoskeletal medicine and

interventional spine injections. He is the site director for resident education

at the VA Long Beach. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and

Rehabilitation, and in the subspecialty of Pain Medicine. He is also a

Qualified Medical Examiner for the State of California.Dr. Takemoto is a

member of several professional societies, including the American Medical

Association, American Academy of PM&R, Association of Academic

Physiatrists and the International Spine Injection Society. He has been a guest

oral examiner for the American Board of PM&R on 6 occasions.
