Many years ago, I was building apartments on the Novara Road in Bray. A large old house stood on the site. The added
wings were being removed leaving the original 1840's block intact, to be incorporated into the new development. I was told
to move some remaining furniture from the rooms to be demolished. While lifting a heavy wardrobe, it's mirrored door swung
open. There on the inside was written "JOHN LENNON 8-12-80 R.I.P" and a crude cross.
I still remember waking on a Tuesday
morning to news that Lennon had been shot late the previous night in New York. The news had an impact on so many people including
whoever inscribed their wardrobe door.
During that week, R.T.E Radio played "Working Class Hero" for the first time. It
had been banned for obscene language but under the circumstances they said it seemed all right.
