My hobbies include shouting at the radio. I'll try to capture that mood here.

Green finger
I was cut off on the freeway by a Honda Prius. First time I'd experienced hybrid-rage.

More than a whiff
Encyclopędia Britannica's definition of  fascism begins as follows:

"Philosophy of government that stresses the primacy and glory of the state, unquestioning obedience to its leader, subordination of the individual will to the state's authority, and harsh suppression of dissent. Martial virtues are celebrated, while liberal and democratic values are disparaged....";(differs from Communism) "...by its protection of business and landowning elites and its preservation of class systems."

Wagon Wheels
The other day I passed a blue Grand Wagoneer sitting on the shoulder of southbound 280 with a towtruck backing in to make a pickup. It brought my own Grand Wagoneer ownership rushing back to me. I had two good years with a '90 model that also ended with several tows off the edge of some highway.
The Grand Wagoneer is truly a "wooden boat" among passenger trucks. (I can't consider it to be an SUV as the design predates by decades that regulation-dodging marketing term).
My problems stemmed from the 5.9 litre engine being surrounded with layers of mandated fuel efficiency and emission control systems. A finely balanced pile which, in my case, started to get out of balance. Mine would stall suddenly at highway speeds. It is amazing how far you can coast from 70 mph with about 4700 lbs of mass.
Repeated attempts to reset the correct balance across all the systems never really fixed the problem. That expense, coupled with the ongoing 11 mpg led me, very reluctantly, to part with my truck.
I always smile when I see a Wag in whatever shape out on the roads.

"Oh, I can't help laughing, really I can't, I know what's coming next."
BBC News Online yesterday reported a "Readers Digest" poll that found Tommy Cooper to be the funniest Briton of all time.
That's one poll result I'm not disputing.

There are no new tricks
Interesting how the Bush campaign, once Kerry started to push back on the Swift Boat attack ads, characterized the response as "losing his cool" and "wild-eyed". This is the same Bush team that attacked John McCain, at the same point in the 2000 Republican primary, as being "unstable". The same John McCain who is Bush's new best friend.

Friday Thirteenth
Why did Bob Costas keep talking about terror every time he saw a Middle Eastern athlete with a video camera during the Opening Ceremony parade of athletes? Very Pavlovian.
