"...I am sharing my story to let readers know that there is hope for all of us who have suffered from this syndrome..."

From Cris
Tannarella@sbcglobal.net  (Irvine, CA) On March 7th, 2000 I contacted my OB's office complaining of what turned out to be the classic symptoms of preeclampsia. My condition was dismissed and I was told that I probably had a virus and should get some rest. Within less than 24 hours, I was taken to the emergency room, monitored, and delivered my baby via emergency-section due to preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome. Claire Nicole was born on March 8th, 2000 at 29 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb 8.5 ounces. Nothing could prepare my husband and me for the circumstances we faced. After 59 days in Children's Hospital, our daughter miraculously came home. Thankfully 3 years later she is doing all the things a typical 3-year-old child does. After a lot of prayer and thought my husband and I decided to try to have another baby. My new high risk OB monitored me very closely and was upfront about my chances of the toxemia and HELLP reoccurring. I was told that I would probably be put on bed rest at approximately 20-24 weeks along and would remain there for the duration of my pregnancy. I am very happy to announce that I never had to go on bed rest and actually delivered my baby post-term! Neither the toxemia nor HELLP Syndrome returned and I delivered a healthy baby boy on May 5, 2003, weighing 7 lbs. 2 ounces. My husband and I got to experience a typical delivery and homecoming, and found it to be a very healing. I am sharing my story to let readers know that there is hope for all of us who have suffered from this syndrome. In addition to my faith, the birth stories that other families shared on this website gave me the strength I needed to attempt having a second child. Thanks to all of you who have shared your stories, they gave us hope. We now refer to our daughter as our miracle baby and our son as our extra blessing. Thanks again and many blessings to you all. Please feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way.

SLAYDENKW@aol.com (Nashville, TN) So pleased to report that after delivering our first child, Andrew, at 33 weeks with severe HELLP in September of 2001, we had a HELLP free pregnancy and delivered our daughter, Anna, at 38 weeks by scheduled c-section on August 28th!!!  She is healthy and 7lb 13oz and it was so wonderful to have a pleasant pregnancy and birth experience this time around.  No long hospital stays for either of us and we are all home and doing very well.  So hang in there everyone, there is hope for HELLP free!!

Kanderson@mc2b.com (Sandy, UT) I had a beautiful baby girl on 9/13/03.  Vivian Thelma was 11 weeks early, but is doing very well.  Here is a link to a website I've started to update her progress:  http://pages.ivillage.com/kstucki/vivian/ No HELLP this time.  Pathology on my placenta was clean and there was no sign of infection.  It has stumped my doctor who is not sure why I went into labor.  I feel great and am just waiting for her to come home.  It will probably be 6 weeks or so before she gets to come home.
