Dear HELLP Syndrome Society Members,

We are excited to announce that Dr. Baha Sibai and fellow researchers are interested in studying the HELLP Syndrome Society's surveys.  Dr. Sibai is considered to be one of the foremost authorities on HELLP Syndrome in the world.  There are several other researchers who have also expressed interest in reviewing this information as

well.  We already have your completed survey and would like you to be a part of this research.  We are requesting that you send us a copy of your medical records from all pregnancies.  You will need to obtain them from your doctor and/or hospital and send them to us.  We have your survey, but it is important to also have your medical records.  Your medical records are critical for validation of your survey.  It is also important for the researchers to be able to look beyond your responses to our questions. 

Here is what medical records you will need to get from your doctor and hospital where you delivered:

  • Records from all pregnancies - whether you had HELLP/preeclampsia or not
  • Prenatal record
  • Delivery Summary
  • Vital Sign Sheet
  • Labs
  • Any medical complications immediately or remote from the index delivery or any new medical diagnosis after delivery. For example: a woman may be admitted for congestive heart failure one week after recovering from HELLP or a woman gets a diagnosis of cardiomyopathy or hypertension several years after delivery.

We realize that there is usually a fee for records and that this may be financially difficult for some, especially those with extensive records.  Obtaining these records is paramount to future research.  If you find it is going to be too expensive for you to obtain these records, please let us know and we will work at finding a solution.  We cannot request these records for you.  You will have to request the records be sent to you and then mail them to us at the address below.

We will also need you to sign a release form that we will have available in a few weeks.  It will permit doctors to review your information and publish it if needed.  You will remain anonymous.
