"...The heart burn that you had from 12 weeks was probably not related to HELLP. Symptoms do not occur that early..."

Q: Is constant heartburn a sign of HELLP through a pregnancy?  I had no symptoms of HELLP until my 36th week (low platelets, high liver enzymes, pain in the upper left quadrant) my blood pressure was always normal, no protein in my urine or anything like that through to 36 weeks, but I did have heartburn that continued and was constant from about the 12th week on.  Fortunately it was never severe enough that an over the counter antacid wouldn't cure but it was something that occurred on a daily basis... upon reading other stories of women with HELLP there is lots of mention of heartburn so I'm wondering if it has any relation to HELLP?

We are considering another pregnancy and most of the literature I have read indicates that if I was to develop HELLP in my second pregnancy, it would most likely occur in the same time frame as the 1st pregnancy,  so for me at  36 weeks.  But this heartburn thing makes me wonder if I didn't have HELLP the whole way through the first one?

A:  The heart burn that you had from 12 weeks was probably not related to HELLP. Symptoms do not occur that early. Also, once a woman has symptoms, we would expect the disease to progress, not remain stable for many months.
