"...My husband and I are nervous and scared, obviously..."

From Amy
amy.rebecca@hotmail.com My son was 2 lbs 1 oz. Doctors say he was in the normal range, but was at the extreme low end of normal for weight.  He is 4 lbs today and is very anemic.  He has had blood transfusions.  Has anyone's child gone through this?

shadow2356@aol.com I am sorry to see you removed your message board. I had HELLP syndrome. I delivered my baby via emergency C-section on 1/8/08. She was 6 weeks premature and 3 lbs 8 oz. She is out of the NICU now and doing well. I had a serious form of the syndrome. I would like to hear from people who had this and had a subsequent pregnancy. Thanks for any info you can provide and for your site

hmmortimer@rogers.com Just wanted to submit the good news.  After 2 HELLP syndrome pregnancies, one worse than the other, we are pregnant again with our last.  We lost our first child, Carson at 23 weeks and had our second at 35 weeks, a girl, Madeline.  We are now 19 weeks along with no blood pressure issues or meds.  This is totally different than the other two pregnancies.  Thanks for the support of this site and its members.  Without it, we wouldn't have the courage to try this a third time.  I would love to be contacted by others who have had a successful subsequent pregnancy.

It always makes me feel better to visit your site and see that I am not the only person in the world who has had HELLP. (twice actually).  I have 2 beautiful kids, both born preterm, but doing great.  My youngest, 8 months, is getting ready to crawl and exploring the world.  I can't help but always have this feeling that something will happen to me.  Why did I have HELLP and my sisters didn't?  Will I be passing something on to my kids?  I want to be around for their school, friends, college, marriage, grandkids....  Do you have any words of wisdom?  My feelings come and go but when they are here they are very strong and it overwhelms me.

cindergretta@comcast.net I had Class I HELLP in April 2005 and am currently expecting in April of this year.  My husband and I are nervous and scared, obviously.  I would love to be contacted by others for support.

Mherbsleb@comast.net While I did not know this family, it truly broke my heart to read this story.  A young mother (Fielding Miskey) delivered twins and then died from HELLP syndrome in the Reading Pa area.  Attached is the link to the story.   http://www.nbc10.com/news/15122662/detail.html?dl=mainclick

JStoweRN@aol.com I developed HELLP Syndrome immediately after giving birth to my now 8 yo daughter.  I know my situation is not the norm, and because I was at term, my baby was fine, and all the complications were mine, and did resolve.  After consulting a perinatologist, my husband and I decided to have another child.  Our second daughter was born 6 yrs ago, and the only complication I experienced was a new diagnosis of atrial fibrillation 3 days before my due date.  I was admitted to the hospital and the a-fib was reversed....and labor started immediately, possibly as a result of the medication used to resolve the a-fib.  I have been told that the a-fib is unrelated to the HELLP Syndrome, but I am not entirely convinced, and have seen a cardiologist, but he has had little to say about a possible correlation.  And finally, I am delighted to announce the birth of our son, now 5 mths.  I did develop protein-urea and excessive swelling, but was otherwise pre-eclampsia  free for the entire pregnancy.  I was induced due to the comparatively mild complications I experienced.  My husband and I share our lives with 3 beautiful healthy children, and I hope our story can encourage others who are considering more children after HELLP.

koparker@bellsouth.net  My HELLP baby Lorene just celebrated her 6th birthday in December, and she couldn't be healthier!!   She was born at 30 weeks weighing 2 lbs, 13 oz.   She is now taller than many of her classmates and performing very well academically.   So, we are very fortunate that she is healthy and happy and doesn't seem to suffer any lasting effects of HELLP.  She also has a little brother Clinton.   We consulted two high-risk ob/gyns before attempting the second pregnancy, and both felt the situation was under control; we had moved between pregnancies and were lucky the two doctors did their residencies together and were good friends! Clinton was delivered by c-section almost two years ago on the scheduled date!!  For those who are afraid of risking a subsequent pregnancy after HELLP, I hope our family can be your inspiration to have candid conversations with your doctors and not allow fear to limit your family.    We are a success story!

lwackett@yahoo.com Hi, I just stumbled onto your site by doing a Google search. I recently had a healthy baby girl at 37 weeks. She was born on Aug 10th.  I was diagnosed with HELLP at that time by one of my 3 OB/GYNs and thank GOD he caught it. I'm still mentally accepting everything that happened to me and at times it is still quite scary. I just wanted to let you know your site is very helpful. I'd like to get more information about being a volunteer. Thank you,

loretta.thirtyacre@verizon.net My daughter nearly lost her life in 2004 due to the HELLP syndrome. She was in ICU for 80 days with kidney and liver failure. Her daughter, born 2 pounds 9 ounces, was in NICU for 40 days. I'm pleased to say baby is fine. Mother is still suffering the long term effects of HELLP as she's developed osteonecrosis and has had to have several surgeries on her legs and hips. She's only 22 and has certainly been a pillar of strength through all of her trauma.
