From Vanessa mcpjrvap@worldnet.att.net (Troutman, NC) I just wanted to let everyone know that our second daughter, Elizabeth, was born on Oct. 25, 2002 via induction at 36.5 weeks due to some irregularities on the fetal monitor. She was healthy and weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. The delivery was easy compared to my first one and we were even able to leave the hospital early. This was my second pregnancy and I did not get HELLP syndrome this time. My first pregnancy was complicated by severe preeclampsia and HELLP at 37 weeks. I was induced at that time and it was a very difficult and scary delivery. Our daughter, Victoria, weighed 7lbs. 6 oz. at birth and after a few scary minutes during which she was not breathing well and needed oxygen, she was fine. She is now a healthy three-year-old big sister. It took us almost three years to become brave enough to attempt another pregnancy. My blood pressure remained erratic after Victoria's birth, so during my second pregnancy I was on methyldopa and baby aspirin. My kidney and liver functioning were monitored closely and I was seen every 2 weeks from the time I became pregnant. At the beginning of the 3rd trimester, I was seen on a weekly basis. I also had test strips at home for monitoring the protein and glucose in my urine. If anyone would like info on the type of monitoring that was done, please feel free to email me. I feel very blessed to have these two wonderful daughters. My prayers are with all of you who have experienced HELLP and those who are attempting subsequent pregnancies. Thanks so much to the HELLP Syndrome Society for all of the info provided to us.
From Wendy WBruffy@aol.com (North Haledon, NJ) Tom and I had our 4th child Zachary on January 11th at 4:06 pm. He weighed a healthy 8lbs4.8oz and was 20in long. He has had jaundice but other than that all is well. (Editor's note: Wendy attended our 1998 HELLP Symposium.)
From Megan mbohlen@wideopenwest.com (Columbus, OH) It is with great gladness and thankfulness that I send this email to you. I have been a follower of your website since my son, Finn was born at 34 weeks in 1999 after I developed a severe case of HELLP syndrome. I found your website to be a great source of information on this little talked about syndrome which affects many more women than we know. I am happy to share some outstanding news with you and hope that it will be a source of hope for other HELLP Syndrome survivors. On Friday, January 3, I delivered a 7 lb., 19 1/2 inches baby girl named Hannah Bethany without one symptom of HELLP syndrome, PIH or pre-eclampsia. My pregnancy was highly guarded by an outstanding high-risk obstetrician who monitored me weekly from week 28. On the advice of my obstetrician I did not take any outstanding measures during my pregnancy (i.e. - baby aspirin, heparin, etc.) with the exception of purchasing a blood pressure cuff to monitor my condition on a daily basis. It is my personal belief that I have received a great healing from God and relied on many prayers from my family and friends, as well as my own. I truly give the glory to God and believe that Hannah Bethany ("gracious house of God") is a true gift from on High. Please share my story with other women so that they may grow strong in their pregnancy and not live in constant fear and doubt. There are some stories that end on a happy and healthy note. Thanks!!
From Michelle mcook@xandersandxanders.com (Cincinnati, OH) I just got back to work after maternity leave and received your email for the monthly newsletter. I wanted to let everyone know that I delivered a healthy baby girl, Adia Rae, on December 6, 2002 at 39 weeks via c-section. I was going to try to deliver vaginally this time around, but my blood pressure escalated at around 34 weeks, which is the exact time that I delivered my son due to HELLP 2-1/2 years ago, and my OB wanted me to deliver before it became an emergency situation like last time. The only thing that I did differently this time was that once my blood pressure went up, my OB put me on bed rest and I received weekly ultrasounds and biophysical tests. I believe we are finished having children now, God has blessed us with two beautiful children and my OB has more or less advised me to quit! I want to thank all of you for your prayers and support these past couple of years, it was a great boost every time I saw another successful birth announcement in the newsletter. Please pass mine along, maybe it will help someone else. Take care, Michelle
