We recently had an article published by Ellen Crowley Fullerton entitled Pregnancy-related disease puts mothers and fetuses at risk.  This can be viewed on the web at http://jscms.jrn.columbia.edu/cns/2005-11-15/fullerton-hellp
Ellen interviews two of our members, Cindy Wagstaff and Terri Andrews (our rep coordinator) as well as Dr. James Martin, director of the division of maternal-fetal medicine and chief of obstetrics for the Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Dr. James Roberts, vice chairman for research in the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and director of Magee-Women's Research Institute and Dr. Baha Sibai, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, who specializes in preeclampsia and HELLP.

One of our members recommended the following web sites for children with difficult behavior issues.  She has found that it has been difficult to discipline a preemie knowing how little they were when coming into this world and the obstacles that they have had to overcome.  She writes:  After surviving HELLP I recovered physically, but emotionally I was very concerned for my son.  He was healthy and growing, but when he'd cry, it took me back to his newborn time, a time which was very scary and sad for me.  As a result of this, I didn't discipline him properly and now I'm paying the price for that.  He's disrespectful, disobedient, argumentative and negative much of the time.  We took him to see a behavioral pediatrician who's a world- renown expert in his field.  His comments are what I want to share with you.  He said that when a mother has had a life-threatening illness or her child has, its very difficult for that mother to discipline the child.  He said he has seen this very often and he recommends various books and study guides to help the mother learn how to discipline.  He says it takes years for the mother to come to terms with what happened to her and /or her child.

I've read a book called
Transforming the Difficult Child by Howard Glasser and Jennifer Easley.  The points and ideas they offer have helped me immensely.  I would definitely recommend that one.  This book also deals with ADHD.  Here's their website:

ADHD ADD ODD attention deficit hyperactivity disorder treatment

Other books I've read are:

Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Sheedy Kurchinka.  This one also has a workbook with it.  This was the one recommended by the behavioral pediatrician.  It's very good too.

The Happiest Toddler on the Block by Harvey Karp.  Very insightful for younger children, and it worked!  Dr. Karp doesn't have a website just for him, but there are many links to articles about him if you Google him.
