From Sharel
soconnel@nttc.edu (Washington, PA) has volunteered to keep up our HELLP database and what a blessing that has been for me.  She has transferred the information from Word to Excel and is still updating it.  As part of her Excel program she is mapping the locations of everyone in our database and is working on some statistics.  She wrote in December that 13% (201 people) of the people on the list have indicated that they (or a family member or friend) have lost at least one child.  We have far more members on our e-mail list than in our database because some people have not given us their locations.  Please, it's important to share your postal address with us and to alert us when your address changes.  There were over a hundred postal letters from our fall campaign that were returned because people had moved.  Some had forwarding addresses and were readdressed, but other people are lost. - Judy

For Nicki
In the first year of the HELLP Syndrome Society's existence I (Judy) was contacted by Nikki, whose daughter Alexis was born prematurely, weighing less than two pounds.  Our group was small, and we all cheered for Alexis as she made small strides toward overcoming her prematurity.  Every once in awhile I hear from Nikki and was delighted to hear from her in December.  Nikki is in the military and has been traveling around the world.  She spent six months away during the war, came back and received order to go to Korea.  She will be headed to Korea in February for 12 months.  Alexis is a beautiful little girl and I'm always excited when I see photos of her.  Please keep Nikki in your thoughts and prayers as she defends our country.

From Stacy
Fentonsc@bellsouth.net I was wondering if anyone with HELLP syndrome has attempted to use a gestational surrogate for her next child.  If so, I would love to see how they did.  We were wondering if my having HELLP would hurt the IVF procedure or give a chance of the surrogate having HELLP too!

From Keda
ShkelqesaD@aol.com I have twin children, one boy and one girl. They are five years old. During pregnancy I developed Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Two years ago my son was diagnosed with PDD or AUTISM. Do you think Preeclampsia or HELLP syndrome caused autism to my son?
Something for myself. Since I gave a birth and until now I'm not taking any medicine but I think something is wrong in my body. I feel tired and I have heartburn. I have done a lot of blood test and result was good.

Many of you may already be signed up for iGive # http://www.iGive.com  but in case you're not...
When you shop online through their site they give a percentage of the amount you spend to your favorite charity. There is a vast array of stores to choose from. The site is very self-explanatory. If you aren't a member of that site and you do a lot of online shopping, you could help out a wonderful cause.

From Debra
jpearce@easystreet.com (Sherwood, OR) I recently applied for life insurance and was denied the premium rate.  (Editor's note:  To clarify the situation - Debra was not turned down for life insurance, but the rate she was offered is higher than the premium rate.)  The reason given was 'my history of HELLP'. As we will not be having any more children, and the medical community insists that HELLP symptoms cease after delivery, I was wondering if any other Moms were having this problem and if we as a group should question the insurance industry. (Perhaps they just don't know the facts or do they have information showing that there are lasting effects?) Many thanks for all your continuing efforts to support those of us who have been affected, one way or another by HELLP.
