Why I have so much information on North Carolina

My great great grandfather, Alfred Leander Wright was born somewhere in North Carolina in Mar 1814. He had one known brother, William Wright, who was born in North Carolina about 1804. Considering the gap in their ages there were probably other siblings, but their names have not come down to us. Alfred and William's father's name was Robert, according to Family Tradition.

Alfred Leander Wright married Jane HOWARD (daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (ROCKET) HOWARD) on Dec 31, 1835 in Blount Co., TN. They then moved to Meade Co., KY for a few years and then to Overton Co., TN by Dec. of 1844. They remained there the rest of their lives and are buried in Red Hill Cemetery.

In trying to find my ggg grandfather in North Carolina I have accumulated a lot of data on WRIGHTs. The time period for the records I have gathered is from late 1700's through 1840.  Sometimes I have data for a later date, but this is rare. Perhaps some of it will help some of you who also have WRIGHT roots in the state of North Carolina.

Information Available

I have arranged the information I have by county. Each county page has information on the origin of the county and then tax lists, census records, marriage, wills, deeds, Rev. Pensions, etc. The data is arranged chronologically, so you will find marriages, deeds, and wills between census records or tax lists. Hopefully, this will help in determining where an individual was prior to one of these acts, what family he or she could have been part of - or were they even in the county prior to the action.

North Carolina Counties

NEW! I'm adding the 1840 & 1850 census records.  The 1850 census will open in a new window with several counties on the web page.  There is a strip tab at the bottom of the page and you can click on the county you want to see the data.

I've uploaded my Wright database with about 6200 names (Wright's and associated names) - just "who, when, & where," but maybe it will help.
