BIOGRAPHY OF KARL BELSER

Karl Arnold Belser was born in 1940 in Virginia and has lived in Santa Clara Valley California (Silicon Valley) since 1951. He graduated from Campbell High school in 1957 and received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford n 1967. Karl was married from 1962 to 1976 and has two sons, David and Charles. He has lived with his significant other, Jackie Daemion, since 1988. Karl worked for IBM in San Jose after graduation until his retirement in 1996, and for several start-up companies after retirement. He still does consulting as the occasion arises. He holds 66 US patents in the fields of graphics displays, computer printers, disk drives, and optical communications. Karl has read widely in personal psychology and done many personal growth workshops including the Erhardt Seminar Training in 1976. This psychological training was essential in surviving his loss of central vision in 1984. Karl took several writing courses after his retirement and has written a memoir comprising 45 stories from his life. He has also written magazine articles on dealing with vision loss, square dancing, and general human interest. Karl has learned to speak Spanish and French, play the piano, and manage his investments, all activities that can be done with low vision. He is an avid traveller and has visited all continents except Antartica. |
