Sally is the latest cat we've adopted... While Tina's niece Jasmine was down here from Calgary for a visit, she and Tina decided that Lillan needed a playmate. Also, Lillan is pretty active, and not too cuddly, and they wanted a cuddly cat. After looking thru the papers, they came across an ad, and we ended up adopting our latest feline resident, a 'cow-spotted' tabby named Sally. She is indeed cuddly, and does demand attention quite a bit, but we don't mind....*grin*
She's a sable ferret with sort of panda markings, and a somewhat divided mask. When we got Rascal, she was only four weeks old, and didn't get around too well... Now, she's a speeding maniac! She gets into the darndest SMALL places. We had to staple posterboard on the bottom of our bed, couch, etc to 'ferretproof' them....and even then we had problems... ;) She makes a wonderful pocketsized 'bulldozer'... nothing stays on any horizontal surface she can reach, it ends up on the floor. She eats doggone near anything we do.... Snack foods, fruit, etc. She's ESPECIALLY fond of cherries, and was once caught 'helping herself' when we set the bowl on the couch. She just walked up, stuck her head in, and ran off with a few....*grin* She LOVES Purina dairy flavored kitten chow .... we used to mix ferret chow and kitten chow for Rascal... she'd pick out the kitten chow, and leave the rest for later...*grin* Nowadays, she mostly eats Hartz Ferret Diet which she seems to enjoy greatly...
She seems to have about three basic modes of locomotion.... She can just walk around, nosing into things (ferrets are plantigrade, btw); run, bouncing like an inchworm; or leap, again in inchworm fashion. It seems that Chuck Jones knew about this when he created Pepe LePew... Pepe's usual method of locomotion looks a LOT like Rascal's...*grin* One other toy Rascal enjoys is her 'ferret-trail' that Tina made. It took a shoebox, and three empty cans of Pringle's potato chips to make it. Simply cut the bottoms off the cans, cut three holes in the sides of the box, and insert the cans in the holes from the inside, then tape the lid on the box. It's great fun to watch Rascal dive into one can, and come popping out of another, confusing our cats tremendously in the process....*grin* We do occasionally have a problem eating in the evening....If we get lazy, and sit on the couch to eat dinner, we sometimes end up with ALL our critters trying to stick their noses in our plates! It gets really bad when I have a glass of tea, and Rascal upends it.... She doesn't just DRINK, she sticks her entire HEAD in the glass, gulps down some tea, then pulls her head out, and shakes, usually tipping the full glass over in the process... We built Rascal a cage that sits outside on our patio. Its made out plywood, such, and measures about two feet by four feet by two feet. Its much roomier, and Rascal's a lot happier, tho we still see the 'lemme out!' dance quite a bit when we use the nearby computer....*grin*
Here's some more photos of our happy maniac...
Here's Rascal, seeking sustenance in Tina's lunch box, back when Shai was still around to help her...
One recommendation: We've got the best vet I know of... Dr Tracy Anderson, at the Countryside Animal Hospital. |
