The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m.

In attendance:

Ben Barrett, President

Guy Moreau, Vice-President

Aki Oshiro, Secretary

Irv Wasserman, Treasurer

Erik Ecklor, Member-at-Large

Aaron Rosen, Danny Swarzman, Geof Syphers—all Members

Financial Position: Current long-term investment in mutual funds with Fidelity: $13,000. A motion to invest in stock-related or other higher interest-bearing options was rejected.

Cash Box: There was an occurrence of a small theft from the cash box. A policy was adopted for the monitor to remove any large amount of money (over $10) and replace it with a personal check. If the monitor has no personal check at that time, they may place an IOU and write a check later.

Xiangqi (Chinese Chess): The policy to openly recruit xiangqi players to the Club was reversed. After the Go Congress, the topic may be brought up again. People are still welcome to play the game, as in the past, for the same fee as go.

Donations: The President will send out letters requesting donations from members and also letters to people whose memberships have expired.

Newsletter: Danny will complete preparation for the next newsletter by the end of the month.

  • Go Events: (1) Northern California Championship Tournament, University of SF, July 3 – 4

  • (2) 15th US Go Congress, SFSU, July 31 – Aug. 8, but played in Golden Gate Park on Aug. 6.

Danny has been planning and preparing for the above events, working with Elizabeth Medel, the contact person from the Asian Art Museum, and with Ernest Brown. More help from members is needed. People attending the above events will be invited to come to the Club.

  • (3) Jie Li Event: Next Sunday, May 16 at 2:30 pm, then Sunday, June 20th.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 pm.
